had to format my next door Neighbours computer they have no xp cd but have label on pc with code

i have a slipsteamed home cd but mid install window pops up asking to press button but by then keyboard mouse have stopped working both usb

dont know what else to try

pc has no ps2 ports at all

No ps2 ports?? What make is that pc?

Beaware there are two types of XP cd and code, retail and select.

I would say look in the bios as there's useally a legacy USB support for keyboard and mouse, but if the keyboard isn't working . . .

home i have is oem but cant even get passed 34%

You could try takeing the hard drive, pulg it into your pc (unplug all your own hard drives first)
Format and install windows on it, let it run through the first bit but turn off the pc when it wants/tries to reboot.
Then stick it back in his pc and run it from there.

Also get all the latest drivers from the fujitsu siemens web site and burn them onto a CD

When intaslling them start with the motherboard chipset.

yeah been on fs site but since i cant cant get xp installed dont really have to worry about drivers yet

also pc has warrenty tag so opening is not really on

Why did you have to reformat it? What were the circumstances?

(Often these PC's have the OS CD with the appropriate drivers installed on the hard drive - it is then up to the user to make a copy of that for backup purposes. (The images can be in a hidden partition. The problem with a total reformat is that you have probably wiped that too,)

it didnt come with any images on the hd they never got supplied with any cd from shop where they bought it and btw this is not first time i had to formated a pc

was problem with harddrive had to run check disk to even get it to load up but they was getting file errors (was jsut to back up files)


have been using pc for long time fixing my own and mates so think ive got idea what im doing but also the college course but yeah i know nothing

curiously Linux is now easier to boot from cold and usually better at recognising peripherals - but importantly gives much better diagnostics

• find a "live CD" from a magazine or the internet of a "stable release" (I like Ubuntu)
• burn it to a CD
• reboot PC with CD - it won't alter any underlying files - though I guess after the re-format that is somewhat academic
• a) see what it recognises
• b) look at the system log - for a really detailed diagnostic

What did you use to slipstream your disc? If it's nLite, then you can create a new disc for unattended installation.

It should of come with a recovery CD (even if all it does is recover from an image on a hidden partition.)

Chkdsk erroring like that sugests bad sectors on the disk, as it's within warranty you should of just gone through the warranty process as that wouldn't be a software/user fault.

Still think it's best to contact fujitsu/semens or supplier of the PC under the warranty, although as it stands they now might try to say that this has been caused by "User error"

There should be a BIOS option to enable USB support that will allow the USB keyboard to be recognised.

Edit: Normally resides in the integrated peripherals menu.
