"Q6600 G0 SLACR" Problem has me baffled
Ok finally got my new
processor (Q6600 G0 SLACR),
motherboard (Abit IP35-E)
and ram (2Gb "2x1Gb" Corsair TwinX XMS2 DDR2 PC5400 "667")
last night i set my new system up and installed vista ultimate 32bit all was going well and set up was soon complete.
The first thing that got me thinking was windows sidebar cpu meter showed some unusuall peeks, with nothing running apart from os, core 2 was at 90% while cores 1,3 & 4 would dance arround between 1-26%
I RAN CPU-Z 1.40.5 AND IT SAID
core speed was 1632.0mhz
Multiplier x 6.0
Bus Speed 272.0 mhz
Rated FSB 1088.0 mhz
IN MY BIOS MY MULTIPLYER IS SET AT 9x266 = 2394 MHZ CORE SPEED
WHY IS MY MULTIPLER SHOWING 6X IN CPU-Z WHEN I SET IT TO 9X IN BIOS????????????
I have herd about throtlling and wondererd if this any thing to do with it so ran core temp to check my temps
CORETEMP SAID
core #0 30c
core #1 27c
core #2 30c
core #3 28c
so temps seem fine BUT THEN I NOTICED CORETEMPS REPORT ON MY PROCESSOR FREQUENCY WHICH SAID
Processor - Intel core 2 quad Q6600 (Kentsfield)
Frequency - 2448.00mhz (408.00 x 6.0)
SO CPU-Z SAYS IM RUNNING AT 6 X 272 = 1632MHZ
CORETEMP SAYS IM RUNNING AT 6 X 408 = 2448MHZ
BIOS SAYS IM RUNNING AT 9 X 266 = 2394MHZ
PLEASE HELP MY HEADS SPINNING:help::help::help:
ive tryed to include a screenshot of cpu-z and core temp but not sure if it will work as this is my first post
Re: "Q6600 G0 SLACR" Problem has me baffled
Just noticed while cpu-z is running the core speed flashed to 2400.00MHZ and the multiplyer jumped to x 9.0 which are the results i expected to see but it only displays this for a split second every few minutes then reverts to the results from previous post
(the 00.00 from the 2400.00mhz is just a guess the numbers flash so fast i cant catch them)
Re: "Q6600 G0 SLACR" Problem has me baffled
It is intentionally ramping down to save power and reduce heat:

Re: "Q6600 G0 SLACR" Problem has me baffled
If you dont want it to do that, just disable C1E/Eist/speedstep, but unless you are overclocking, you may as well keep them enabled.
Re: "Q6600 G0 SLACR" Problem has me baffled
yep cheers guys disabled them and it worked like a treat
thanks again graham:):):):)
Re: "Q6600 G0 SLACR" Problem has me baffled
Why disable them? The CPU will go up to the stock speed when you start doing something. I don't understand why someone would like to waste money on electricity.
