hard drive failing

i have a couple of W\D sata drives set up in a raid0 array.
1 of them started clicking loudly and the system refused to boot unplugged the drive replugged back in and now seems okay.
Question is can a loose power lead cause it to seem to fail?

Yes it can but if I was you I'd backup everything just incase it goes wrong. With Raid 0 you'd loose the lot.
The drive could still be on it's way out, I had very similar with an old IBM Deskstar, clicked for a while, then stopped after a couple boots, about 2 weeks later it died without any warning

It could be a loose power cable or indeed a failing power supply. Have you got a surge protector as well?

Of course it could be that one or more of the hard drives is failing. You would need to run WD Diagnostics to confirm this - you can DL for their website.

Either way, it would be prudent to take at least a back up of essential data, if not a full system backup, now.

Its a new install so i still have all my files backed up, reason i asked was i know that it clickes when dying but today failed to boot so fiddled with the cables and rebooted fine but on the failed boot today drive was silent

I still have a 40GB and an 80GB deathstar from the ill fated range and they are still going strong, and the 80GB has a whiney motor that it had since day 1.

Any programs to check it tried W\D own but as its in a raid array the program that they use only finds a single drive that i also have installed so would need 1 for raid?

What level raid - if it is RAID 0, back it up NOW! If RAID 1 or higher with redundancy built in, then replace the drive NOW or (or ASAP) and then worry about diagnosing the suspect drive. (unless of course you don't mind loosing all your data and reloading your OS and all its applications.

Thanks all it is a raid0 array, will take it out today and run as a single drive to i rebuild the array.
going to start a new thread for which drives to go for now

If it is RAID 0. there is no option to rebuild the array. If you take the drive out, you have no access to meaningful data on the other drive - in RAID 0 the data is striped across both drives.
