CPU Voltage

Hello,

I've just been reading through Clunks guide into overclocking,

I've got a Q6600 G0 and i booted with CPU Voltage on auto and successfully got through OCCT with no errors.

I then booted with an FSB of 380 and OCCT crashed, so i tried to up the voltage,

Now,

On PC Probe it shows the CPU Voltage as 1.32 so i went into the BIOS and attempted to set it to 1.3375 i booted up and PC Probe showed the Vcore as 1.27/1.28 so i bumped it up to 1.5000 and it's now showing as 1.29..

Don't really want to go any higher incase i start to damage the CPU.

Any advice?

Yeah, tell us what your system specs are and what bios settings you are using for starters

Well i've used your walkthrough mainly..

I've got the P5K-E model though, everything is set how you've set it through your guide

What power supply are you using? And do you have the lastest Bios for your motherboard?

I'm using a Corsair HX520 and using the latest BIOS which is 0503 from as far as i know..

Dude - for starters, why don't you do it a bit slower? Going from an FSB of 266 to 380 in one step is more than a bit optimistic. Is that with a x8 multiplier? Or x9?

Secondly, fill in the My System part of your profile, so we can tell what components you've got.

You're probably making the mistake everyone does of accidentally overclocking their RAM to some insane level. If you want to get to 3 GHz, try 333 * 9, and make sure your RAM is on a 1:1 ratio (so it'll be clocked at 666MHz as it'd DDR). Then change the cpu:dram ratio to get up to near your RAM's rated frequency.

Also, be aware that if your RAM is quite high-spec (e.g. PC8500), you may need to up the RAM voltages to what is required by the manufacturer of your RAM. Also, for the above settings you may need to up the MCH voltage a notch.

A lot of board have what's called vdroop, the voltage you set in the BIOS is always higher then the voltage that reaches the CPU, in some cases by quite some margin.

Well i followed Clunks guide into the overclocking and everything run smoothly in OCCT with no crashhes so i thought why not. Temperatures are around 48 on load so there was room to go higher.

I'm currently running at 350FSB with a multiplier of 9 and the RAM running at 700Mhz with a voltage of 2.2V

I've disabled all of the settings as advised in Clunks guide into overclocking the Quad Core Chips.

I'm going to take a look into this Vdroop though and see if there's any settings that i've missed out,

I don't know if the P5K-E has it but the P5K has a setting called Voltage dampener which helps with less vdroop, supposedly

No, if you are Overclocking then its your friend

I think i've got that set on auto, would you suggest enabling it?

Yes, if you are overclocking then enable it. It's not going to ensure an overclock but it will help with Vdroop, which means it will try and keep the Vcore from falling too low or going to high from what you have set it to
