    DVD+R discs

    Hello,

I've always used dvd-r with my pc. My brother bought a new spindle that happens to be dvd+r.

I want to know is dvd+r okay for data backup assuming the drives supports it? does anyone else back pc data to dvd+r?

    Re: DVD+R discs

dvd-r is a slightly older format than dvd +r, although they're not that different (to us), dvd-r is more likely to be supported by older dvd players as it has been around longer

    Re: DVD+R discs

Speaking of DVD/+-/R - what's the best format to use for burning DVDs to play in a home DVD player?

    Re: DVD+R discs

Both formats should work fine on anything other than first gen drives.

The blanks are cheap as well, so just try buying a +R and a -R, burn something to each and see if they both work in your home dvd player. Should be fine, but if not you'll be able to see which works best with your hardware.

    Re: DVD+R discs

    Traditionally, compatability is as follows:

    DVD-R
    DVD+RW
    DVD-RW
    DVD+R

However, with compatible drives and software you can use "bit setting" on DVD+R media that fools the DVD playing into thinking the disk is actually a DVD-ROM and they should then play in just about anything.

I find good quality DVD-R is still the best though. My Pioneer DV-717 wich is over about 10 years old plays them without blinking.
