Re: DvD rom drive problem
What motherboard, dvd rom? Is DMA on, check in device manager
Re: DvD rom drive problem
Motherboard is : EVGA 122-CK-NF68-A1 NF680i SLI, S775, PCI-E(x16), DDR2 533/667/800, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX
DVD rom : Pioneer (not sure which because i'm at work at the moment)
not sure what you mean by DMA, Direct memory access? if so sorry i don't know where that would be found. I have had a look in device manager and it says that it's working fine.

Re: DvD rom drive problem
does it do it with cd and dvds, you can check via device manager/ide/ata controllers as to the dma/pio status
Ah did you install the nvidia ide drivers? If so, uninstall them, uninstall the dvd-rom from device manager and reboot

Hi, no i didn't install the drivers because the drive won't run any disc's at all. It's either something i've got wrong in Bios or that ive connected the leads wrong on the motherboard and the drivers, the mobo book told me that blue goes to motherboard, black goes to master drive and gray goes to slave. Iwasn't sure if the book was maybe wrong?
A little update from last night, i changed the dvd drive for my old cd/dvd reader, it did the same thing but just said insert disc into D:. I changed back to the dvd drive and typed D:\autorun and after a while came up with something like dvd drive conflicting with O/I Device. Please guys i need some big help here cause its gonna be another week before i can find the time to take it to a shop for them to look at.
Re: DvD rom drive problem
Is the drive set to Master/Slave/CS ? Is there anything else on the IDE cable ?

Hi, the IDE cable is connected to the motherboard (blue end) then it runs to my HD which is set as master (black end) then from there it goes to the dvd read/burner (gray end). I know that it's something and nothing but i just can't put my finger on it. Should it be setup different in the Bios because it says Master (0) hard drive name then Slave (0) dvd drive name.
Re: DvD rom drive problem
You really should keep HDDs and Optical drives on different IDE cables if you can.
Try running the DVDrom on a different cable, that may fix it

edit: an update, i've asked the wife to nip and buy a SATA dvd rom. Hopefully this will solve it.
Re: DvD rom drive problem
Is the dvd set to slave or cs? (it may show up as slave in bios, even when set to cs)
If it is set to slave , you could try cs..

Re: DvD rom drive problem
Just a thought, do you have any software like nero's virtual drive software installed?
Re: DvD rom drive problem
no m8 it's a reformat on a drive that didn't have nero or any virtual drives on it. It's just got windows xp and thats all. The wife has let me know she's bought a SATA dvd rom so i'm gonna try that tonight when i get home. Any tips on installing it would be handy, do i need to change anything in Bios or just leave it as auto.
Re: DvD rom drive problem
SATA drives are dead easy. Just p'np' :)
Re: DvD rom drive problem
It's all fixed :D it must have been a conflict with the old dvd rom. I bought a SATA rom and everythings running great, thx for your help.
