    PC not powering up

hi i need the help of u ppl. Here is my problem:

The LED light in the motherboard lights up when u turn on the switch on the wall. When i press the power button on the pc nothing happens. Even the fan won't spin.. complete like i did not press the on button at all.

Here is what i have tried.
-Using a screwdriver to connect the two pins to make sure that the power button is not broken but that does not work.

-Removing the hard disk, graphic card, wireless, optical drives and then try to power on the pc again but still nothing happen.

    -Reset the CMOS

-tried using the reset button instead of the on button.

    Pls help me

    ^^what Buff said.

Unless its a new build, and then it could be that youve forgotten to plug the 4/8 pin EPS lead into the motherboard perhaps?

    What PSU?

Basics first - change the power lead, check the fuses.

    Re: PC not powering up

i am thinking of going to get another power supply. I am thinking that the problem will lies either in the motherboard or the PSU. This is beacuse i have taken everything off except the CPU and memory so i am guessing that if there is a problem with any of those two the computer should at least still power up but its not doing that so i hope its the PSU.

peterb whats the power lead?? and how do i check the fuses?

The power lead connects the back of the PSU to the power socket on the wall. There is a fuse in the plug top.

There MAY also be a fuse on the back off the PSU, sometimes built in to the power socket on the PSU - check that. (You can test them by substitution or with a voltmeter)

Finally, if there is a switch on the back of the PSU, make sure that has not been knocked so it is switched off.

    Re: PC not powering up

power lead or fuse is ok lol otherwise the led on the motherboard wouldn't be lit..

it sounds like either the motherboard or the PSU.

    Re: PC not powering up

I've just had the exact same thing happen to me two days ago mate, annoying as hell. To be fair my ps is 5 years old in the computer it happened to. Did you smell anything funny? I ask because when mine blew there was a definate smell of electrical smoke. Kinda stinks. Just hoping it hasn't taken anything with it :s

But yeah, like everybody else said, sounds like your psu, especially if your mobo is lighting up!

    Re: PC not powering up

ok i went to a pc store to buy a new psu. At the same time i told the guy there my problem. He told me that it would most probably be the mobo. He says that the psu should be ok since the led lights up on the mobo. What do you guys think?

    Re: PC not powering up

The caps sometimes have silicon on them so it all depends if it is actually leaking, post a pic for us to examine. Also was the PSU not under warranty?
