Calling all RAM Experts - Help me with this plz
Following on from my previous thread where I asked about which RAM to buy for my 3 yr old Dell dimension 8400 desktop pc which came with,,,
samsung 256mb - 1R x 8 PC2-4200-U-444-10-A1 (2 sticks)
anyway i ended up purchasing this
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=402849
with the understanding that even if it didn't run on 800 mhz , if i ever upgrade (likely) then i will benefit from the 800mhz then..
got the goods today from scan (well done for quick del guys @ scan) - but to my disappointment its only running on 533mhz !! ?? :( I have taken the old RAM out completely and currently just using the corsair sticks
my question is.. Can i possibly do something to increase the speed even to even 667mhz which what I was atleast expecting ??
as u can see on the following link crucial does say my MB can take
Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-4200,DDR2 PC2-6400,DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.*
http://www.crucial.com/store/listpar...08400%20Series
so this info my crucial a load of cobblers ?
TIA
Re: Calling all RAM Experts - Help me with this plz
ok after reading the corsaier forums from other dell8400 users I FIGURED THAT my pc can max support pc4200 only (533mhz)
is it worth future proofing with RAM ? or pretty pointless, i dont think i will upgrade my comp for another yr atleast
also which slots do i need to put the ram in 1 and 3 or 1 and 2 ?
i am using the 2 corsair sticks only (1gb each)
thanks
Re: Calling all RAM Experts - Help me with this plz
PC6400 RAM will still be useful in a year's time. PC4200 probably won't. Install the RAM in slots 1&2.

That's the same thing, interleaving is what you want (though it only really makes any difference when using integrated graphics).
