Intel E6850 only working with a 6x multiplier instead of 9x
Hi, i have an intel E6850 cpu and i recently downloaded cpu-z
Bus speed is 340MHz my multiplier is only 6x therefore i am only working with 2040MHz on each core instead of 3060MHz.
Temps are around 28 according to uGuru so i have ample temperature to run at 9x.
Does anyone know how i can do this?
Thanks
Ian

I'd imagine you have something like Speedstep enabled in your BIOS.
Systems like EIST (Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology) dynamically reduce the multi/FSB of a CPU when its not under heavy load - if you load up an app like Orthos and run it, you should see the multi shoot up again.

What motherboard?I found with my Asus P5B Deluxe I had to manually set it in the BIOS, then set it back to auto and bizarrely all worked fine since.
Re: Intel E6850 only working with a 6x multiplier instead of 9x
well i disabled it now but im still on a 6x multiplier!!
It does go up to 9x when im runnin it hard but when speedsteppin is off it should be at 9x anyway!!
Tried manually setting the settings in bios at 9x as it was already set as as default but no difference!!
Re: Intel E6850 only working with a 6x multiplier instead of 9x
you need to disable two things EIST and C1E

Why do you need the system running full speed when its not neccesary? I have always found speedstep on the C2D to work just fine. I don't understand why people feel the need to switch it all off.

i dont kno, what do ppl recommend, i fink it wud b gud with speedsteppin on but iunno!!!
Thatway you aint heatin up more than you need and ur cpu will last longer!!!

Erm... l0lz0r5?
Just a hint - you're not constrained in terms of the number of characters that you can use so much on forums, so you can drop the txtspk. It makes it easier to read, and people are more likely to take in what you say.

I would recommend leaving speedstep enabled, it works just fine, it reduces heat and runs the CPU at full speed only when its needed. I can't comment on if it will extend the life of the CPU, not sure anyone has ever tested it.
But why run it full speed when its just not needed, its like clocking your graphics card at 3D speeds on the windows desktop, a waste basically. :)
Leave it on default with speedstep enabled, unless you are trouble shooting for overclocking or something.
