Having a slight problem with my mic not being recognised on windows vista (ultimate)

pc specs:
core 2 duo e6600
asus p5n-e sli mobo
2gb corsair ram
8800gts 320mb
creative x-fi extreme gamer sound card
400gb hard drive

Anywho the mic refuses to be recognised even when configuring a mic option in console panel. Ive reinstalled to the latest creative drivers for the card but still doesnt seem to work, all other sound seems to work fine, just no mic. The headset still works on my old xp pc, but doesnt seem to work on this new vista one, any ideas?? oh its a sennheiser pc50 headset btw.
