    Thecus N5200 (NAS) placing

    Hello,

At the moment I have my NAS, Thecus N5200B Pro, in my desk on wheels.

Maybe I'm a bit paranoid but can it do harm to the harddrives placing it in a desk on wheels?

When I clean my room 'sometimes' I move the desk with the NAS powered on, because the NAS is almost 24x7 streaming.

My desk will move sometimes a bit because it is on wheels.

Here is a picture of my desk with my NAS.

I can put the NAS at the right on the floor if that is better.

    Cheers.
    Jordi

It should be fine where it is unless you knock it of when cleaning.

    Re: Thecus N5200 (NAS) placing

Its probably better there than on the floor as the NAS will only become a dust magnet on the floor.
My desk it on wheels and i move it around whilst the pc and extra's are all plugged in, nothing happens.
I think you are paranoid, btw lovely NAS what drives are in that?

    Re: Thecus N5200 (NAS) placing

If it was a problem there would be millions of dead PCs that spend their life on similar computer desks.

If a PC, NAS or individual hard drive cannot tollerate being moved a little or rocked about a bit on a desk then how it got to you in one piece from the manufacturers is beyond me

Actually i see your PC at the far left, why are you not questioning if that is ok to be on the same desk?

True. But you still need to give it quite a shock to cuase damage. About 70G according to the datasheet
