Cannot get Java Working in IE 7.0 (Vista)

    Hi All

I am having a problem with JRE, on my machine, in IE 7.0 on windows Vista Ultimate. When I access a website with a Java Applet it says that I do not have Java installed.

Java runs fine in Firefox, but that is not my preferred browser.

    I have:
    Uninstalled JRE.
    Reinstalled it.
Checked Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Java (sun).
    Checked for Installed Add-Ins (enabled).
    Perfomed offline uninstall and re-install.

In the control panel Java Application
Advanced Tab > default for browsers >Microsoft Internet Explorer (when checked says: "unable to change browser settings - please check you have sufficent permissions to change system settings" I am using an Administrator account).

The version of IE I am using is 7.0.6000.16546 and the JRE is 1.6.0 (build 1.6.0_03-b5)

    Any help appreciated.

    Shunts...

You could try setting java's permissions lower than admin and hope it works. Seems vista is a fickle beast at best.
Also, java is up in the 6's
Download Java software from Sun Microsystems

Yes, but rather confusingly what is advertised as "Java Version 6" is actually version 1.6

Thanks - I did know this! Capt_cornflake is correct - and this is the latest version that I have installed many times still it refuses to work.

As for setting permissions, I'll need to look into how that is set.

    Thanks
