Ide To Sata
Hello everyone
I have four HDs in my case. The Abit mobo has two IDE slots, each used for my two DVD R/Ws. Three of the HDs are IDE and connected to the mobo using SATA Adapters, the fourth HD is a SATA.
The OS is on the first HD and has a SATA adapter. I have had this configuration since I bought the mobo about a couple of years ago or more. I has worked well so far, but I am now getting quite a few glitches; the machine will not always turn off and requires a hard switch off i.e., turn off at the case button; sometimes all the HDs are not recognised and the machine will not start; at any given moment the whole machine will lock up and a Hard Switch off is necessary, and so on.
I do have a spare 250gb SATA HD which I wish to put into the system as the OS DVD. So please what is the best way to:
a. Format and partition the SATA and
b. Clone the present IDE/ SATA to the new SATA HD ?
regards

Re: Ide To Sata
The easiest is going to be to clone your current boot disk to the new.

Re: Ide To Sata
Do you have an IDE / USB adapter? I bought one for about £10 and it's wonderful. I get a problem, pull the hard disk and plug into my laptop with my adaptor and fix it there then try again. Cloning is a piece of piss and then I just need new drivers.
