8800gtx fully powered, no signal
What i would like:
> A moment of your time.
> Any suggestions you have.
> For my - uber - new card to work on my - uber - new monitor.
My huge order came today, the only pieces of hardware i changed were the following:
PSU: Cheap ebuyer 500w (gold) psu ---> Zalman 500w SLI certified PSU
Physx card: N/a ---> BFG physx card
Graphics card: HIS X800xl ---> ScanFX 8800gtx
Everything works fine with the exception of the 8800gtx, when it is in the board i get no signal, not even bios. I have tried:
> Replugging ALL power connectors and swapping the power connectors on the G Card
> Booting without one of the connectors in the g card to make sure it beeped to indicate a power issue, it did, very loudly.
> Plugging my monitor, (that is using a cheap dvi>vga adaptor) into the 2nd dvi slot on the g card.
> Plugging a different monitor that i have previously used with a dvi>vga adaptor (new 22" 1680x1050 monitor )
> Reseating the board multiple times even once booting whilst supporting the card to enure proper connection in the pci-e slot.
What happens:
> Windows boots in the background, i can hear it i can even use shortcuts to start music playing lol.
Current stage:
> Using my old x800xl with everything else to ensure they are working.
What i am going to do:
> Try this card on that dvi>vga adaptor because it has a dvi and a vga port. √ - It works.
> Get a mate to bring another dvi>vga adaptor round (because i still dont trust this one and i have given away all my other ones). x - The dvi>vga adaptor works.
> Try clearing CMOS. Get the board to try and re detect the graphics properly if it will.
Things i consider possibly a problem:
> My motherboard is only 20 pin not 24/ 20+4 but it does have a molex connector to supply it more power for something (that is unspecified).

Re: 8800gtx fully powered, no signal
Have u got a SATA DVD drive?
I had this problem and it turned out to be an incompatibility with the DVDR drive (no really) causing all sorts of mayhem. I used to be able to get it display by turning off the PSU for 2 mins (i.e. the mains switch so it's completely off) and then switching it back on. It'd usually display attempt 1 or 2. Unplugging the DVDR resolved it completely. Very strange. (Optiarc SATA DVDR btw). Difference with mine is the display would generally come back when windows loaded.
Basic rule of thumb is uplug anything you can - try unplugging any hardware that's not needed just to see a POST screen (i.e. drives, soundcards etc).
Re: 8800gtx fully powered, no signal
I just got a new dvd burner as a present but IDE but after i clear cmos and try it, i'll try a nice bare boot with as 'lil as possible.
Thanks
Re: 8800gtx fully powered, no signal
Strangest happenings. A little while back i had to bin my dead gigabyte 965p-ds3 that was allowing me to overclock my processor to 3ghz from 1.8. The board i replaced it with is my old board. This heap of S***. It has a pci-e 16x slot and something called an 'AGI express 1x slot' for s***** and giggles after having done a bare boot (no hdd, dvd, 1 stick of ram and nothing else) i decided to try the card in this slot. Before the card sounded like it was running full speed you know like how newer cards go before their BIOS runs through and starts to control them. In this slot it span up then slowed down so i swapped the monitor cable to the other slot and hey presto meaning, i just have to buy a new motherboard.
Re: 8800gtx fully powered, no signal
You definately don't want to have put the 8800GTX into an AGP slot! It's not designed for that slot and IIRC, shouldn't even fit properly as they have different cuts in the slots.
TBH, your power supply is running at the upper end of it's capacity with all the extra stuff, I'd unplug your PysX card for starters and as suggested, take out anything that isn't needed and see if you can get it running.

This board is designed for crossfire with 2 pci express cards but one slot (the AGI slot which is identical to a pci e slot) is only able to run at 1x as opposed to the full 16x. I'm not an idiot i know the difference between agp and pci-e and i certainly wouldn't ram it into something where it does not fit.

This, is my new power supply. As you can plainly see it is certified for SLI and has 43A on the 12v rails, 30-35a is the norm recommended on forums as a decent power supply. It COMES with 2 pci-e power connectors, funnily enough exactly what the gtx takes....
IN WHAT WAY IS THAT ON THE LIMITS OF MY POWER SUPPLY?
You should already know that on modern powerful graphics card if they are encountering problems with the supply of power via the pci-e connectors the speakers on them beep......VERY LOUDLY. I clearly noted that this was not the case and that i had proved this monitoring system was working by removing one pci-e connector and getting the expected reaction a loud beep.

Did you just miss that whole line or something?
Re: 8800gtx fully powered, no signal
Yaaaay got an MSI board with an intel 975x chipset on the way. Should be sorted in no time.
Also contrary to what the manual says the AGI express slot is performing at 4x according to nvidia control panel, system information.
Scratch that, its now gonna be a gigabyte P31 chipset board.
:undecided......i wonder if i'll get 3ghz again.
Re: 8800gtx fully powered, no signal
Why not get a P35 based mobo, they are the current flavour of the month.
