    Re: New PC

    all because of ati.....

we can only wait and speculate, but right now blitzens right. Scauser ( I think thats the right spelling )
show us an AMD chip that beats an Intel chip, available to buy right now, in the UK. When you can and while the OP is still deciding we will change our thoughts on the cpu.

    Re: New PC

£90 for the 6000+ OEM is good ( stock performance as good as stock E6600, E6550, and probably the E6750)

£80 for the 5000+ black edition is good (overclocked this is very cometitive imo)

intel murder amd when it comes to overclocking of course but for those who don't want to, amd's offer a very nice range.

    Re: New PC

Mate you are again comparing intel next gen with Amds X2 Series.
Yes ofcourse Intel Core 2 Duo are better than current gen of amds.
But wait for next series of Amd to come out.

Any how it was a really good to see difference in opinions which was really informative .That will surely help the guy buying new rig.Good luk

How on earth is that comparing Intel next gen???? THEY ARE HERE and have been for nearly 2 years??????????
    Please read and think.
How can you compare Intel CPU's vs AMD's offerings when they havent been released yet???? That makes absolutely no sense to anyone.

If you will just read waht has been said the penny may drop.

CURRENT CPU's from Intel vs CURRENT CPU's from AMD = Intel an easy winner.

By your train of thought, we would be comparing a current 8800GTX with an ATI offering they are going to release in 2009.

Can't you see that isn't making any sense or argument in case?

    Re: New PC

all this talk about DAAMIT.....I am sticking with Intel

If I was to buy a 3rd party cooler what would I get? I am more worried about temp than anything else. I have seen these micro Phase Change jobbies, are they worth going for?

    Re: New PC

    depends on the price

a normal air heatsink is sufficient with a fan.

how much are those micro phase change thingies.

    Re: New PC

wow! 8gb ram and 4tb hard disk!

unless you do lots of professional work eg rendering or film editing i dont see how you can need 8gb and 4tb(i might be wrong though). also wait a month before the amd/ati cards come out, the new 8800gt is out with good performance at less power! the ati cards are said to be similar, even halving power needed! thats no small amount. maybe wait for the new penryn class processors, not too long to wait be again, faster and cooler. i assume you'll be overclocking.

man thats going to be a heavy rig when its running + 30" monitor oh man i can wish!

    Re: New PC

Although I am an AMD fan, I've got to say Intel is really kicking AMD hard in where the sun doesn't shine.

All because of the Core2Duo, it won over all the enthusiasts that are willing to SPEND!

For now anyway intel is the way to go !

Maybe you'd like to browse the net starting with this:

AnandTech: AMD's Phenom Unveiled: A Somber Farewell to K8

The problem is, and I hate to ruin the surprise here, Phenom isn't faster than Intel's Core 2 Quad clock for clock. In other words, a 2.3GHz Phenom 9600 will set you back at least $283 and it's slower than a 2.4Ghz Core 2 Quad Q6600, which will only cost you $269
