Bios Settings Query
I experienced a reboot prob on my OS and had to initially use the default boot setup on BIOS. i didn't note previous settings but the defaults must be close to the originals. My PC is a Mesh Elite2 Extreme SLI model. I've looked at the BIOS setup settings etc and items of doubt are on BOOT and ADVANCED. I assume NON-OS2 is used (other option OS2 if DDR > 64MB). Also is SLI Broadcast Aperture disabled; I'm set to auto but unsure; same applies to NVIDIA GPU ER - is it disabled or enabled? Also LINKBOOST - disabled? Lastly RUN ASUS EZ FLASH 2 -is it used? I don't have an FDD so have disabled on the booting sequence list and listed as number 3 behind HDD and CD.
I'm hoping someone may have notes for their BIOS SETUP. Any useful info welcome.

Re: Bios Settings Query
What make of bios is it? What motherboatrd and what OS?
If it is working with the default set up - leave it be.
However boot options should generally be set to boot from IDE as the first option (although if you set it to CDROM or anything else, it will eventually boot from the hard drive if it can't find any other bootable source).
Asus EZflash is a utilty for flashing the bios. Does the mobo have on board graphics? The references to the NVIDA GPU may refer to enabling/disabling the onboard graphics. OS2 was an IBM alternative to windows - but sadly died a death some years ago - you can ignore/disable any references to OS2.
Post some specific details about the mobo and someone with experience of it may be able to assist further - but if it is working at the default settings, why change anything?

Re: Bios Settings Query
Thanks for the info re my query. The OS is Win XP Media Center 2005. Mobo is an Asus P5N32 SLI SE Deluxe for an Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme X6800 Dual Core Processor. The BIOS type is Phoenix Award Setup Utility. Unfortunately I get the dreaded 'blue error display' after Windows Startup - Startup OK but not OK after picking user and entering Windows OS - system crashes and goes to restart. It behaved like this on my good setup settings and same on my defaults. My system has 640MB nVIDIA GeForce 5800 GTS - possibly on board. I'm stumped but reckon I've got a hardware prob.

Re: Bios Settings Query
Memory would be my first thought (having just had a memory failure :( ) - unless you had recently changed anything on the machine.
Downkload this Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool and burn it onto a CD and leave it running for a couple of hours (unless a fault shows up first)

Re: Bios Settings Query
Nothing really changed. Same erratic behaviour previously but rock solid fault after a successful 'system restore'. Mesh don't wear a RAM hardware swop, even under warranty, unless they have good evidence. I assume memtest s/w loads up on the BIOS CD facility?

Re: Bios Settings Query
Download it - burn to a CD - boot off it - it goes straight to the memtest program.
