Compaq Presario SR1739UK - CPU Upgrade
My mate has the above system and wants a new graphics card and if possible a new CPU.
The specs of the machine are here and the mobo specs are here. His screen runs at 1024*768 and I've advised him to go for an 8600GT. He only has a 300Watt PSU and due to the power requirements of an x1950 pro (which he him self put up for consideration) and the fact he is running at a low resolution I thought the 8600GT would be a more appropriate/safer option even though the ATI card is technically better where FPS is concerned. However at such low resolutions it would make no difference to him; hes not a performance whore, hes just fed up of on-board graphics.
So we have that sorted, but what about the CPU? Would a Pentium dual-core work on that motherboard? I think it would, being S775 but with it being an older system now, I just wanted to check.
Re: Compaq Presario SR1739UK - CPU Upgrade
CPU/Processor
* Socket: 775
* Supports the following processors:
o Pentium D 900 series Dual Core (Presler)
o Pentium D 800 series Dual Core (Smithfield)
o Pentium 4 500 (Prescott)
o Pentium 4 600 (Prescott)
o Celeron D (Prescott)
o Celeron D (Cedar Mill)
Only the Presler,smithfield cores for duel core,and they run hot very hot.
Re: Compaq Presario SR1739UK - CPU Upgrade
I saw that but the reason I asked was because some motherboards will still accept a "Core" cpu even though the mobo might have been released before the Core architecture came out.
