    Antec PSU Not Working

    Hi all,

Just recently bought an Antec PSU TPII 550Watt from the Hexus 'sell your stuff section'. Anyhow I connected the psu up, and then turned it on. The motherboard light turns on, but the pc does not. I have doubled checked all the other connections (power, reset, etc) and all seems fine.

However I noticed aftherwards there was a pin missing from the 24 pin connector- you can see the image below. Its the 3rd on from the right on the top.

Would this be causing the problem? If not any ideas what might be causing the issue?

    Specs of the pc are-

    AMD 3800 X2
    Asus M2N4 SLI
    7900GS
    160GB HD,

    Cheers

    Re: Antec PSU Not Working

Is that not just the now defunct -5v or something?

I had an issue like this a while back with a coolermaster igreen supply, it seems some motherboards don't like the high efficiency supplies. Do you have another system to test it on?

    Re: Antec PSU Not Working

    Thanks for your suggestion.

At the moment I dont have another system to try on, my sis is on the other pc and I really dont want to use mine!

What do you mean by defunct -5v? Never heard of that before.

EDIT- Just had a look at my Antec Smartpower (in my other pc) and it has that pin missing as well- so it seems thats not the issue.

    Re: Antec PSU Not Working

My igreen manual reads "This power supply does not support -5v for the motherboard for the new ATX for factor operation".

When I queried that I was told it was referring to something that isn't even used anymore, what truth there is in it we'll need someone more knowledgeable to shed light on it.

    Re: Antec PSU Not Working

hi guys, i had this problem with my first corsair psu, looky here
    http://forums.hexus.net/psus/102446-...ml#post1029684

my tagan one worked (had that missing pin) and my corsair didnt (missing that pin)
in the end i found out my corsair psu was faulty. so that missing pin doesnt make a difference.
now using another corsair still with the missing pin but its fully functional.

hope this helps. i suppose you should rma it. but test it on other pcs first.

    Cheers,

However nothing turns on in my pc (no fans, lights, etc) - except the motherboard light- which is sort of strange.

    Re: Antec PSU Not Working

Does the PSU start up if you short any black and the green cable on that header you have taken a photo of?

If it doesn't, the PSU is 100% at fault. If it does, more trouble shooting (could be a short on the case?)

I'd be tempted just to RMA it, to be sure you don't end up with a fee it'd be ideal to check it on someone elses system unless you fear its going to damage components.

I think he's purchased it via these forums. You need to try shorting the 2 wires as suggested to see if it powers up, with some PSUs you need a device connected ie a load before they fire up so plug something like a fan/CD-DVD drive into 1 of the molex connectors on the PSU.

Here's a link to a guide, for a 20 pin connector but it pretty much applies to a 24 pin too.

    Re: Antec PSU Not Working

    Thanks for all your suggestions-

I decided to take out the psu and test it on my second rig (see spec below), unfortunately it did not work. The motherboard does not have an led light so I could not tell if the psu was supplying power, however when I tried to turn the pc on, nothing happened.

However what was strange is that the green light on the front (power led) flickered when I turned the psu on from the back.

I also took out the Antec Smartpower 400watt and put it in my bros pc and it works fine, so I dont think theres nothing wrong with the pc's. Unfortunately hes just taken his pc back along with my Antec Smartpower psu in it, and out of kindness left me his old Orion XP420 400watt psu

    Re: Antec PSU Not Working

The guy I bought this psu from says he used a 'psu tester' to check the psu before he sent it to me. Is there any chance that the psu tester may be wrong? I dont think the psu got damaged in transit, and its remained in the same condition since I received it, so I am a bit confused.

I am going to send it back on Monday.

I hope not, but I doubt it. I bought the psu from koolpc and I had a look at his hexus trust beforehand and it looked very good.

Not on purpose i might add.

It just has 'dead PSU' written all over it.

Did you try the shorting the wires trick to see if it powers up?
