    Re: Memory sticks

Sounds like it has a secure/encrypted partition. If you know the make of the USB key, see if you can download the latest version of the encryption software and delete the partition.

If you don't know the make, or can't find any software to manage the encrypted partition, take it back to the college and get them to reset it.

    Re: Memory sticks

This was discussed just recently, but I can't seem to find the post that had the answer....

As I recall, the thread said that the memory stick had been partitioned and formatted using the LINUX operating system, and the only way to access the full size would be to use Linux.

Not sure if this is 100% accurate, Im just recalling what I read, perhaps further searching on google will turn up something.

    Good luck !

I dont see why partitioning in linux would do that, or why Linux needs to be written in all caps either.

sounds like its either encryption software, or perhaps CD drive emulation built into the pen drive to make it easier to boot from

    Re: Memory sticks

Yeah, sounds a bit like my drive I have here, a Sandisk Cruzer, it is sold as a "U3 Flash Drive" - and has a partition on it that acts as a CD Drive and uses this to autorun its application launcher.

I found an app on the U3 site to remove it, if it is that, head over and it should be easy to fine.

Ofcourse, if you insert it and nothing pops up, it probably isn't a drive with the U3 stuff installed!
