USB Problem??

I am having problems with my computer recognizing my external hard drive .

Other USB devices work no prob.....Pls

Make Model hard drive?
USB 2.0 or 1.1?
USB port on motherboard?
Through a USB hub? If so what make model? Is it passive?
Try a different USB slot any Diference?
What Operating System?
What Motherboard?
How much RAM?
etc etc
