Opinions On New PC Parts.
Hi guys, its been a really long time since i've built my own machine, i wanna get in to it all again...to start of with, i need a machine quite soonish - that i can do my video/audio editing and graphics work on. and some gaming. i've got around £900 to spend. i'm restricted to geting stuff from dabs.com only - at the moment, this is whats in the basket:-
Western Digital Caviar 500GB S300 16mb 7200rpm
£63.05
Microsoft Optical Wheel Mouse 1.1 2 Button USB PS2 Black
£13.99
Samsung SyncMaster 206BW - TFT - 20"
£196.22
Gigabyte S775 Intel P35 ATX DDR2 Audio
£70.79
Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4GHz S775
£164.24
Corsair Memory TWIN2X2048-6400C4 2x1GB 240-Pin DIMM XMS2-6400 CL4
£52.07
Antec P182 Advanced Super Mid Tower - No PSU Black
£78.77
Corsair Memory 520 Watt, ATX, EPS12V, PS/2, Modular Power Supply
£56.63
Gigabyte GeForce 8800GT 512MB PCIE DVI
£176.23
Pioneer 18x DVD±RW/RAM internal SATA Black
£21.92
i have a keyboard from before, and some IDE DVD & Hard drives for the IDE channel. & a creative audigy sound card...my main thoughts are about the memory being compatible with the motherboard and running smoothly. i keep hearing stuff about having to sett latency's manually to a lower setting, and if a board has EPPs, then it does it automatically? i'm not sure if that board has. and i don't have much knowledge on these things! as i have not messed about with a bios much before.
sorry if this is a whole load of info...any help would be much appreciated.
Re: Opinions On New PC Parts.
EPPs are an nVidia thing, so forget about it for the Intel chipset (and non-EPP memory). It's not worth it anyway as you can do anything you needed manually instead and the benefits of an Intel chipset far outweigh the lack of EPP.
In anycase, lower memory latency is not going to make a jot of difference for your machine use :p
Spec looks good to me :)
Re: Opinions On New PC Parts.
dabs.com - Asustek S775 Intel P35 ATX GLAN (P5K) is a sweet board.
and if you haven't already, I'd check the bundles/content and warranty on the various GT brands too, MSI and BFG would be worth checking out.
dabs.com - Optical Drives products at great prices from dabs.com either of the Samsung drives are quiet too.
...and Dabs is expensive :p
Re: Opinions On New PC Parts.
22" LCDs start from £150 on Dabs so you could probably spend the same amount on one as in your spec and get an extra 2 inches, probably at the cost quality.
