On Board NForce LAN not Working

I don't know what has happened. I have a Biostar 6100-M9 motherboard with a 10/100 LAN port built in. I used it this morning and it connected to the internet (via router) fine, however now it is causing me aggro.

The light on the router is just flashing constantly (i.e. once every 2 seconds) as if there is an error. The lights from the lan port on the pc aren't on (the green flashing leds showing activity).

I have checked it isn't disabled in the bios, I have tried re-enabling it and such like, I have reinstalled the drivers using ones from Biostars website. I have tried using a different cable and still the computer does not like it, just constantly "not connected"

What can I do to solve this problem? As I said I used it successfully this morning without any aggro, but 2 hours later, and it just doesnt seem to want to work. Most recent hardware change = new external sound card but it has worked fine since then (> 1 week)

    Regards

Can you connect to the router?

And is the flashing on it what it normally does?

Re: On Board NForce LAN not Working

It is the lan port light that is flashing? Is it constant rate flsahing? Try resetting the router (power down and restart it).

There are the usual avenues to approach - re-install the drivers, and/or re-install TCP/IP networking. However the fact that the link leds aren't illuminating on teh mobo indicates that is more likely to be a hardware problem.

So if you have eliminated the cable as the problem area, it is either a fault on the mobo (you should get a link light when a connection is made, even without any drivers loaded - it indicates that the physical layer is intact) or a fault in the router. Does the router have another port you can try? Otherwise buy or borrow a cheap ethernet card and install that in the computer and see if that works or borrow a router or switch and see if the link lamps illuminate.

Elimination of the faulty area by sustitution is the simplest way to fault find in situations like this.

Re: On Board NForce LAN not Working

Sorry the router is the one that is flashing (tried it in a different router) and it does the same, the light just flashes at a constant rate.

No lights come on the lan port on the pc, it just seems like it is dead. It says it is operating fine and is displayed in hardware etc. Reinstalled the drivers with no difference.

I cannot connect to the router or another pc.

PS. XBOX (ethernet) and laptops (wireless) are able to connect to router and internet :s

Re: On Board NForce LAN not Working

JUST booted up my pc and it connected, green lights on the lan port now on, and everything seems to be working, luckily i do have a wireless card in there as back-up I will keep you informed if the strangeness continues...

I originally thought it could be the cable, as it has had a bit of a battering, but for it not to communicate at all, using a different cable did strike me as bizarre :s
