    1:1 pixel mapping and overscan?

I've posted a number of threads recently regarding my computer upgrade, in terms of what parts will work together and whether I should use Vista ultimate or Xp..

I went with Vista ultimate and I've just been trying it on my hdtv via hdmi and I've noticed that desktop doesn't fit properly to the screen and I can remember a friend having a similar problem which was resolved by setting up 1:1 pixel mapping or something along those lines?

Can anyone give me more information on this and how to set it up?

    Thanks!

Just set the desktop resolution to be the same as the native resolution of the TV and it'll use 1:1 mapping via HMDI.

Re: 1:1 pixel mapping and overscan?

I use my hdtv as a second display and normally have it display at 1360x768 or 1920x1080i but neither looks quite right. I tried resizing the desktop using the nvidia control panel which I think is the right place to be in but I never got the moving sliders which would allow me to change it.

Could this be because I don't have the hdtv as a single dislay but rather as a second?

Re: 1:1 pixel mapping and overscan?

I'm afraid I don't have experience with Vista - on XP it's just right clicking on the desktop then going properties and then to settings.

It could be the dual monitor thing messing it up - is the second monitor set to clone the first, or is it an extension?

The 2nd is an extension. As you say its very simple on XP and it's never been a prolem however I think it's something related to Vista - not a bug or anything, simply a setting that I need to adjust.

It also depends on the TV. Some Samsungs (mine included) instruct you to connect a PC up using a DSUB cable because they cannot display @ 1:1 using an HDMI cable resulting in a desktop that is larger than the screen.

My AOC is the same..my screen suffers from overscan via DVI-HDMI cable.

Re: 1:1 pixel mapping and overscan?

That must be it. I use a dvi to hdmi cable and if I have the hdtv as the only display it suffers from overscan and I cannot adjust the desktop to fit the screen.

Ah well... It's strange how it's not a problem with XP but it is with Vista...

If by any chance you use vista media center i have found the way around the overscan problem is to choose television instead of flat panel when you go through the media center setup procedure.

Re: 1:1 pixel mapping and overscan?

The newer revision of the Nvidia drivers have very poor options when it comes to adjusting your desktop res. I've tried using them on my HDTV (DVI-HDMI connection) and have only succeeded in blurring the picture somewhat.

I had heard somewhere that they were going to look at the options and try to improve them in letr revisions.

Re: 1:1 pixel mapping and overscan?

I have managed to adjust a few settings to get the picture almost right. At 1360x768 I can now get a decent picture but I lose about half a cm of screen on the left hand side of the screen - which to be honest I'm not going to lose sleep over!
