HDtv on GeForce card

Hi all,
I have the above card, 7300 GS version and wondered how I can get HDtv on it.
I can currently connect on Virgin BBand to internet TV from various sources including the HD channel, but I'm not sure if the image I receive is true HD or just a normal digital picture. ((The card specs say that I can recieve HDtv)

My PC is intel dual core 2Gb memory & Vista DeLuxe with an ASUS P5B-mx/wifi/ap MObo, & shows in device manager as HD Audio enabled.

My monitor is LCD flat screen.

You really need a tv tuner to receive an HD signal on your PC, and a sattelite dish to provide the signal to your tuner. I think you're confusing what your card can do - it can display images at HD resolutions, but it has no way of receiving a live HD stream.

I'm sure you'd find some HD content via torrent sites if that's your bag. I don't have experience of this online HD channel you mention, but if you can save the shows, or find the properties, providing the resolution of the video is 1280x720 or upwards, thats HD. Bear in mind, files you'll find in online channels or torrents such as that will be heavily compressed, and not indicative of the true picture quality of a good HD-DVD or BD disk, or even a Sky HD broadcast.

Thanks for that skinleech - so if I installed my Happauge wintv card (it may be that the software is out of date - circa 2000 !!) & used the feed from a sattelite dish (without the decoder box !!) I could get Hd - or do they make WinTv-Hd cards now.

an old wintv card will have an analog tuner, at about 320x240 resolution (about 1/4 of sd)

to get HD into a pc, you need one of the following:
* a blu-ray or hd-dvd drive, and some hd movies
* a dvb-t (freeview) card, and to live near the Crystal Palace transmitter (which has the bbc-hd test stream on it)
* a dvb-s (satellite) card, and you only want free-to-air channels like bbc-hd
* an HD set-top box which will output HD content via a firewire port (found on US cable networks on occasion)
* an HD set-top box like sky hd, and a (very expensive) professional video editing hdmi or component capture card
* download content, e.g. via miro, or the hd version of elephant's dream, or somesuch

those are your options. you won't get sky hd into your pc without a fight.

not using the supplied set-top box is a violation of both sky and virgin t&c

and there are no legit, licensed, cams for the NDS encryption used

True enough on the Ts & Cs - I'm a Virgin cable customer, and you have no idea how much I would love to get rid of that piece-of-cack Pace box that Telewest supplied, but which is mandated by the Ts & Cs.

Just a couple of pointers : The SKY satellite dish will be decommisioned at the end of the month when we change to Virgin,and,providing the box goes back, I wondered if we could use the dish as an ariel if it is pointing in the right direction.

At my other location, I currently get internet Tv (without Tv card) & one of the channels as stated previously is HDTV-The best HD in the World - now if I had an HD card would I be able to rx the same (at HD Quality) without the aid of any freeview/sat box.

If your asking are you watching HD via the internet stream. i Doubt it. The 7300GS only Supports HD Playback, the card does not have a chip for decoding HDTV signals so their is no support for HDTV.

Virgin Broadband

does not mention HDTV streaming.
