    XP and SATA huh??!?!

Im going to be building my first rig on wednesday and plan to put windows xp SP2 on it.

However I have being reading a lot of sites saying something about hittin f6 when installing your os to load sata drivers onto it.

I have the ASUS P5K-e wifi board and a Maxtor STM3250310AS 250GB SATAII 8MB Cache OEM.

Can any help me to understand what i need to do to install windows.
BTW I HAVE NO FLOPPY DISK DRIVE!

you only really need to do that for RAID, it should see the sata drive as a normal one if youve set it to ide in the bios

    Re: XP and SATA huh??!?!

windows xp's installer was found, etched on stone tablets, in ancient sumeria. as a result, it only supports loading drivers for hardware it doesn't have support for already, from a floppy diskette

sp2 added a bunch of drivers, so if you're lucky, it'll just work. if not, your only other option is to attempt to create a custom windows install cd with the required drivers merged in

How do you think they did RAID before SATA?
    SCSI wasn't the only way
