    Earphone repair?

Right after I happily picked up my package from SCAN, I walked through the door and my Etymotics ER6i dropped to the floor and cable got pulled by the closing door :S

The driver seems to be fine as it somehow managed to work if I twisted the cable around. After a few tries the trick doesn't work anymore :S

Are there any shop that does earbud repair? It is probably just a loose connection or broken cable. 70 quids for another pair when I've used it for less than 6 months is not a great idea :S

    Re: Earphone repair?

Send it to etymotic for repair - if you want it repaired under warranty you might have to lie a bit about how it happened (ie: say it was wear and tear)

Or you could see this as a good chance to upgrade - get UE Super Fi 5 Pro

    Re: Earphone repair?

I bought mine in USA, and it is well past the 3 month time for non-registered repair :S From what I heard they're **** in dealing with RMA, forcing you to buy new filters / foams from them, and to mail it with insured, registered mail, etc. Then they mail it back which will probably get taxed :S (Only if Royal mail don't rip off on processing fee I'll even bother to do it). Might as well get a new pair.

Super Fi 5 Pro is outside my price range TBH. I'll see may be get a pair of E2C or E3C for cheap :S

I don't think they are easy to repair, maybe you can ask an electronic engineer friend at imperial to see if he can re solder the loose connection for you?

Get the Super Fi 5 pros trust me you won't regret it! They are cheap on ebay (from USA still cheap even if you get taxed):
eBay.co.uk - Super Fi 5 Pro, MP3 Player Accessories, Accessories, Portable Audio items at low prices

I spent £130 on mine, damn amazon

    Re: Earphone repair?

Can you post a pic of the where you think the damage is? Also do they look like they can be pulled apart?

I'm in NW London and would be willing to resolder but only if they can easily be pulled apart.

Its all about the sound quality - once you first get semi-decent IEMs there is no going back...

I reckon my next set will be Shure e500/se530...
