Unhappy Dropped laptop. Now it won't charge!

Okay so dropped my Asus ms1029/m645 (evesham quest Roma) laptop on it's corner...I thought it was okay so kept using it but when it told me the battery was flat I knew it was broke as my power-supply was plugged in. On closer inspection the socket the ps plugs into is wobbling about. I phoned the tech guys and they've quoted £120 + Parts to fix. Would I be able to fix this myself with beginner soldering skills? or am I going to have to cough up for my clumsiness?
    Anyone else fixed this one?
    Cheers,
    MOC

    cough up i would think.

laptops are real pains to get apart and back together again, and unless your confident in taking really complicated things to bits i would leave well along.

however, have a look on yell or somewhere for laptop repair centres, they might be able to to the job a bit cheaper for you

There's a member on here that can repair them, I'll pm him a link to this thread. He might be a little cheaper than the Tech Guys.

Re: Dropped laptop. Now it won't charge!

    cheers for the pm dave.

im not doing it for a living now, you can do it with beginner skills if you can get the board out

buy some desolder braid and get the old socket out, sounds like you already smashed it, so i doubt a repair will help.. and the fact there so cheap Asus, higrade, laptop and notebook dc jack and dc power sockets

they should have a new socket for you, around a tenner with delivery, if you fancy a crack at it feel free to pm me for any help you might need, but google is good for getting the destructions on how to take it apart.

just take your time, and dont burn the tracks off !
its not the end of the world if you do as some wire soon sorts that out

Thanks, I'll give it a go tommorow. Get it out of the case and see what the damage is...
