DVDrw will not read DVD's

not had this problem before/ but my laptop drive which is a DVDrw will now only read or play cd and no longer any dvd's

is this a screwed drive I am thinking?

Dirty lens?

Could b that the pickup isnt getting enough light reflected back from the DVD. DVD's aren't as good at reflecting light because of their data density, double layer disks reflect even less.

Could be the lens, it could be the dvd especially if burnt. Try an original film dvd to see if it will play.

Do a system test in nero on the drive.

i have tried all sorts of dvds but no joy, as i mentioned it still burns and reads cd's just fine

AnyDVD installed? Any things which may interfere with the reading of disks?

Try a Linux boot CD if you have one handy (or the UBCD) to see if you get the same in a different OS. If so, time to buy a new one buddy
