    indeed not, which is why most distros have shipped SMP-only kernels for a while

    thank you all who posted, with your guidance i was able to get both cores working by means of using the installation disk for vista, without removing all my files as mentioned by directhex, so again thank you for your helpful advice.

    Interesting... I tried this twice in the past and ended up with various bluescreens. Just tried it again and it seems to be working ok (though in all honesty I've not tested too much)
