Exclamation Removing and Installing New Memory

I am about to Remove Current Memory Sticks because they are occupying the only slots my computer has and they are not the maximum capacity for each slot which happens to be 1 GB per slot. When I remove these it seems to me that all the files, folders and programs I currently have on my computer would be removed with them. Is this true? If so how can I install my new memory to utilize my computers max capacity without wiping out what is currently on my comp. Could I move all memory to one stick then remove one and install the new stick then....oooooh I don't know......HELP!

    Hello, again

basically no you don't lose anything, the information is stored on your harddrive, not the memery modules.

everytime you turn your computer off the RAM is wiped clean of anything (in simple terms) and the information is stored to your harddrive.

so upgrading your RAM, does not make you lose all of your folders programs or anything of the sort.

Re: Removing and Installing New Memory

To try and make things simple for you, do the following

    1) Go to Memory upgrades, flash media, and usb storage at Crucial.com and run their memory scanner by clicking on "Scan my System". This will tell you what RAM you can actually purchase that'll work in your computer.

    2) Watch the following video How To Install More Memory In My Computer (Technology: Installing Computer Parts), it's a really handy guide (though the advice about stactic is a little OTT, you can simply earth yourself by touching the case or a radiator)

    (\___/) (\___/) (\___/) (\___/) (\___/) (\___/) (\___/)
    (='.'=) (='.'=) (='.'=) (='.'=) (='.'=) (='.'=) (='.'=)
    (")_(") (")_(") (")_(") (")_(") (")_(") (")_(") (")_(")

Just thought that I would add the memory is to allow fast access of the data for the programs/services which are currently running, and is not a perminant store of data, the hard disk is where data is permaninty stored. Your memory can't remember anything after it has been shut down, and requires power to do this.
