New Rig will not start...
Hello im new to the forums, this is my first project but im having some trouble.
My rig is complete but for some reason there is no output going to my monitor and im wondering if its my new rig that is having problems. The computer starts up fine but nothing it happening.
Here are the specs.
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
ASUS P5N32-E SLI PLUS Motherboard
BFG 8800GT OC Edition
4gb (2 x 2GB) memory
600W PSU (old), BFG 800W PSU (new)
Btw, my monitor works for my laptop and i am using a VGA > DVI cable adapter that came with my graphic card to connect to my Rig.
Any help is appreciated thank you.

Re: New Rig will not start...
no i do not, thats why i have been unsure that its the monitor playing up, im using speakers that are built in to monitor also for the moment.
Re: New Rig will not start...
Try with just one stick of RAM, could be faulty or needs higher volatge.
Re: New Rig will not start...
ok i tried doing one stick at a time but still no output or beeps.

Re: New Rig will not start...
Have you made sure all the wires eg. 12V are in and thhe graphics card is in its slot properly.
Re: New Rig will not start...
Take the graphics card out, and then start the pc up. You should then get some beeps from the motherboard.
It sounds like a dead motherboard or psu. What psu do you have (make and model)?
Re: New Rig will not start...
OK i removed it all out of the case and put it back together outside, still nothing so i removed my memory both sticks and tried and it began beeping like "BEEP....BEEP BEEP, BEEP....BEEP BEEP" and carried on, is that just telling me that the memory is out or is it that the memory is broken? first response i have had from the motherboard as in sound but no output to monitor still, is that because there is no memory inside?
and btw last poster, my PSU came with the case so its regular, a OKIA-600ATX
Just researched the beeps now and it is a long beep, followed by two short beeps which is this i think.
"Indicates a video error has occurred and the BIOS cannot initialize the video screen to display any additional information"
P.O.S.T ISSUE HERE
EDIT: The next time i tried it without memory, it didn't beep. :S
Re: New Rig will not start...
make sure the graphics card is firmly in the slot, and the 6/8-pin pci-e connector (if it has one) is connected :)

This is the FIRST place i would be looking.
You have some decent components in there and it would be a shame to fry them on, what almost certainly is, an underpowered, low rated, generic PSU.
Whats the sticker on the side of the PSU say out of interest.
Wait...i have found it.

You have a MAXIMUM of 24A on the 12V Rail.
I would be astonished if it was pushing more than 18/19A.
My advice - Its confirmed now to be cheap and nasty. Bin it and spend a few quid on a decent PSU or your components may not last too long.
Re: New Rig will not start...
Agree with Blitzen, swop the psu.
Re: New Rig will not start...
The PSU is definately not up to its 600W rating, but surely should be able to power up the system in order to POST?
Re: New Rig will not start...
I'll third what blitzen said, get rid of the psu.
EDIT- The PSU might not be causing the problem you have now, but its very possible that it will cause problems in the future, so it would be better to change it sooner rather then later.

Depends what the REAL wattage rating is.
I have had a look and its that bad the sticker on the PSU doesnt even tell you.
Lol...this is how PSU manufacturers confuse people........
Look at this PSU....immediate thoughts to the non PSU savvy eye and its 600W.
IF it was 600W then the single 12V Rail would be delivering 50A :lol:
I think its clear, that what their figures tell us is totally false.
The truth bending comes with the 600W.......It more than likely is capable of putting 600W out. I can guarantee though, if it did have to, it would get extremely hot, start smoking and almost certainly take a few components (if not all) with it to the grave.
On the picture of the PSU it already states only 24A...they cant both be right.
THis should set the alarm bells ringing straight away.
Re: New Rig will not start...
heh but:
+3.3V * 32A = 105W
+5V * 50A = 250W
+12V * 24A = 288W
a whopping 643W, wow isnt it awesome!!111!... good old marketing :)
I suppose it depends on how many hdd/optical drives there are in the system in addition to the mobo+cpu+gfx to whether 24A is sufficient, or whether the components draw more than that at power-on...
I still think that the pci-e connector isnt plugged in :D
