    Horizontal black lines

The best way to explain this is to just show the screenshot, so here it is

    Image Link

The black boxes were added by me to conceal identity, but it's the black lines that are the problem. It is not application specific, and I'm not sure if they change at all or stay the same since I am yet to experience this myself. It's fixed by a reboot but it keeps coming back!

We can rule out the monitor, since it appears on the screenshot, so my best guess is video card issues. Anyone seen anything like this before or know what could be causing this and how to fix it?

could be drivers, have you tried newer/older video drivers and chipset drivers?

does it occur in the bios?

    Re: Horizontal black lines

What puzzles me is that the lines aren't regular, typically if something on the output side had stopped working you'd see a regular pattern as the card tries to render it's part of the screen.

Do these lines move at all or are they in the same place regardless of the application? If they stay in the same place, I'd suspect an application fault such as a corrupted driver, or a fault in Windows. If they move around, you could be looking at bad vRAM.

Damaged video cable? I do feel it's most likely overheating of your video card, possibly due to faliure of the fan.

    Re: Horizontal black lines

Have tried re-installing the driver, didn't change anything. It may be video card overheating, but this is only an office PC used for basic stuff, so doesn't seem too likely. What I'd expect from dodgy video RAM would be the white 'snow' that I've seen when pushing too hard on the OC on my own cards.

I do pretty much all my maintenance there remotely, and it doesn't show for me on remote desktop, and I haven't seen it in person yet, so not sure if the lines are moving around or still.
