    HD Ready?

    Hi, I have the following setup;

    ABIT IP-35PRO Motherboard

    Intel E6850 Core2Duo 3.0Ghz (Running at 3.6Ghz OC'd)

    24' Samsung SM245B LCD Monitor

768MB XFX 8800 ULTRA Graphics Card

IS everything I have ready for hd and capable of handling it?

I dont currently have an HD DVD drive but if my setup is ready for HD, then i will purchase one.

    Thanks
    Ian Caruana

    Re: HD Ready?

    Agreed.

You'll need PowerDVD 7 or Arcsfot Total Media Extreme for HD-DVD/BD playback. Any DVD HD also a good idea, removes the need for HDCP.

    Re: HD Ready?

why buy a HD DVD player right now though? I would wait until the BR/HD DVD cobo drives drop in price then you should be ok no matter what happens.

(until Sony upgrade their Blueray and the drive no longer plays all the content)

I didn't know the monitor was HDCP also.

The LG (I think) combo drive for the PC should be ok, and not too expensive.

    Re: HD Ready?

    about £140 for a combo reader, £80 for a BR-only reader, iirc

and you can buy drives now - it's the software that keeps getting updated on blu-ray, which isn't an issue for pc owners

    Oh, nice.
I don't mind that as a one off payment, but the price of the disks seriously need to come down now

Do you mean blanks or the actual movies?

Movietyme has BD bargains for £7.99, and often sells films on both formats from £10.99. Granted a lot of them hit £17.99.

Also, in regards to Any DVD HD point above, if you did decide to go with a combo, Any DVD HD will remove the region codes for any disks bought outwith the UK.

    Re: HD Ready?

no, that's the thing, you need to use software like powerdvd7. and it'll run at full quality BECAUSE you have a full hdcp chain
