Question Large case side fan is not spinning and no response from the monitor

Hi everyone, it is my 1st time on the forum

I have recently built a computer with these specs

    A+ El Diablo case
    ASUS commando P965
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4GHz)
    Nvidia GEForce 8800 GTS 640MB
    2GB OCZ Platinum PC6400 800MHz
    EZCOOL 700Watt Power Supply

After all the hardware is inserted and the wires are sorted, the computer will just flash for a second and will not turn on again.

I then found the problem and removed the 3 pin connector from the large side fan of the case, it starts up, however, there is no boot on startup, the screen is still blank and the fan does not spin but lights up.
What are your suggestions for this problem and what I should do?

    Thank u
    Big D3

make sure the 4-pin atx connector is plugged in, that could be the problem

Re: Large case side fan is not spinning and no response from the monitor

Is the fan on the side of the case still connected? Basic fault finding is to strip the system down to the basics - remove all but the RAM and see if you get any POST beeps (you should get some because there isn't a graphics card)

If you do, then replace the graphics card and see if it boots and posts - if so you should then get a video output.

Unfortunately in cases like this it comes down to methodical fault finding.

I'll second what peterb said, see if you get any beeps with no gfx card in. If you dont then it may point to a faulty motherboard.

You can also remove the ram (leaving just motherboard, cpu, cooler & psu) and so long as the speaker is hooked up it should beep like crazy.

Re: Large case side fan is not spinning and no response from the monitor

Have you tried booting with a single stick of RAM in? These high end RAM modules require more than the "standard" voltage to be supplied, but as a backup, can be run on the 1.8v standard if only one stick is inserted.

When you've booted with a single stick, you can go into the BIOS and up it to the manufacturers suggested rating (no idea though what that would be rated for)

Re: Large case side fan is not spinning and no response from the monitor

    Hi everyone

just 2 update I finally got the large fan 2 work after reorganising the wires but and i have checked the motherboard (is fine otherwise it will not turn on) the cpu is fine as well, I got beep error messages with no ram, but with one or two sticks of ram it will not start up.
I am now going 2 remove and replace the graphics card like peterb said, to receive a beep.

I am thinking that my ram is incompatiable with the motherboard, or the graphics card needs more power from a better power supply.

I let u guys know on my progress and I want 2 say to all of u a big thank u 2 u all for your help.

    Thank u

your not the only one with this problem, i too have encountered same thing and i will hopefully if i have time drop my computer at the shop so they can try another better PSU as so far i have had no response from monitor, wires all connected and had error beeps when removed ram. i now think it may be the PSU not giving enough power to the gfx card.

please do post back if you have successfully got it running and what you did.

Re: Large case side fan is not spinning and no response from the monitor

    Hiya

Just 2 update the computer is now sorted out and working again. What I did was replace the 2GB OCZ ram with the 2GB corsair ram.

This was because the OCZ ram was not compatitable with my asus commando motherboard because of the QVL (Qualified Vendors List) listed in my asus commando user guide (or manual book if u prefer) did not list OCZ for compatility for it.

I would like 2 thank everyone who replied and gave tips for sorting out this problem.

Give this a try Diddyo, it worked for me, u should have no problems 2, good luck!!

    Thanks again

Re: Large case side fan is not spinning and no response from the monitor

    Glad you got yours sorted!

    I on the other hard am i little stuck, i found the QVL on asus.com but they don't list any 2gb memory although board supports it as i have A-DATA ADQVE1B16K 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

Click here for P5N32-E SLI PLUS QVL

guys who left reviews on newegg.com say it works fine for their p5n32-e sli plus mobos one said they had to upgrade bios to accommodate the memory. So this memory should be fine

Re: Large case side fan is not spinning and no response from the monitor

    hi Diddyo

I think in order 4 ur 4GB ram to work u may need a windows 64 bit operating system like vista to accommodate ur 4gb ram, this was from a friend of mine at uni.

i think this solves it, if not then u could try upgrading the bios.

    good luck

Do you know that EZCOOL PSUs are not too useful.
When you can, change it as soon as possible.

You really shouldnt be running decent hardware like that on that PSU. I must admit, im astonished your rig even boots up.

(they cant even get their website working properly let alone their PSU's)

Hey i have Vista Ultimate x64 ready to install but my pc hasn't been able to display anything or beep for POST so i can't upgrade bios yet anyway, just waiting for a part now before taking to shop as they'll find my problem, got a feeling its my PSU.

Re: Large case side fan is not spinning and no response from the monitor

lol it works 4 me although i would never buy from them online.

It was the only decent PSU on the market costing just 45 pounds at my local store. I dunno if there r any decents PSU at all, I just don't like having 2 much power if its not needed (Well unless if I plan on getting a dual graphics card)

What PSU will u recommend for me 2 upgrade my PSU Blitzen?

Although I'm not Blitzen, I suspect he will say as I do - Corsair, Seasonic or FSP. He might also mention Tagan or Hyper.
