pc borked.

i have a Gigabyte k8nsc-939 mobo, and i cant reset cmos.
well to be exact, i cant find it :O_o1:

was messing in bios and now it wont post, but worryingly, the power button will not turn the pc off so it just hands before POST and i have to switch the psu off. i've taken battery out and left over night with no power coming in and wont post this mornin. i've tried holding "ins" incase that works with this board. so i hoping its just the motherboard thats had it, and i can get it replaced, any ideas people?

edit ** just tried it again and there was a lovely bang sound from my PSU and the smell of smoke, oh great fun :@

Could just be a coincidence that you were messing around with your bios when your PSU decided to go pop. Seems unlikely a change of bios settings would affect your PSU. In either case sounds like you need a new power supply at the very least, and it'll be trial and error to find any other components that are gubbed.

Think that says it all really... but what to do from there? (BTW - what make of PSU is/was it?)

Well, give the inside of the case a good looking at to see if you dislodged any PSU leads while you were removing the battery and this has shorted against anything. Take out the PSU and see if there is any visible damage, but TBH, I wouldn't risk using it again - although you could try firing it up (possibly a bad choice of words) with just a couple of fans connected to see if they run.

Then strip down the system, to the processor and a stick of ram only, get a new PSU and see if the system posts or shows any sign of life at all. If it doesn't you have borked one or more of the three components - mobo and/or CPU and/or RAM.

If it does pass POST, offer a silent parayer of thanks to a deity of your chooseing, and start re-building the system bit by bit - start with the graphics card, and power up, then add then the second stick of memory and power up, then the CD/DVD and if it still posts at that point run Memtest to give the system a work out. If that all works, then re-install the HDD and hope that it all bursts into life.

it was a CWT (channel well technologies) psu, good few years old.

i think i need a psu and mobo now.
