Re: wireless from coaxial?
Not really. If you can get access to the roof, put an amplifier/splitter up there and run a separate cable from the attic to the upstairs room (not too difficult - small hole in the ceiling and some small cross-section trunking on the wall - do it in a corner and it is pretty much unnoticeable). That way the two sockets are isolated and you can use both at the same time without one degrading the other.
Re: wireless from coaxial?
yeah, i'd cut the cable as soon as it comes in to the house, then stick on an fplug, split it, and use some good quality coax for your half (and re-do the other half if you want to...).
decent 2 way splitter:
2 Way Cable TV Splitter Eurovox Aerial Virgin Magic Eye on eBay, also, Other Satellite Cable, Satellite Cable Freeview, Consumer Electronics (end time 23-Jan-08 11:06:49 GMT)
good quality double copper shielded coax:
Maplin > Satellite TV Cable FT100
f-plugs (hopefully not too small, too big is fine as you can pad cable with electrical tape beforehand):
F Plug Twist Connector RG6 Cable Virgin Digital x5 on eBay, also, Other Satellite Cable, Satellite Cable Freeview, Consumer Electronics (end time 27-Jan-08 11:23:33 GMT)
f plug to coax (belling lee) plug, or just get a regular one and screw it in:
F TYPE FEMALE - COAX PLUG CONNECTOR ADAPTOR FREE P&P on eBay, also, Freeview Aerials, Satellite Cable Freeview, Consumer Electronics (end time 21-Jan-08 21:45:00 GMT)
Re: wireless from coaxial?
You don't need f plugs with regular coax for terrestrial TV - they are really only needed for satellite ddish downfeed. Normal Belling-Lee style coax plugs are fine.
Re: wireless from coaxial?
The only thing is with an F Plug you get a firm connection that is not going anywhere. The normal style can work their way loose.
Re: wireless from coaxial?
Also F plugs are excellent connectors impedance wise . One thing about Freeview is that you need a very good aerial and one of the best is called 'VISION'. Cost about 32 pounds and it very good. Word is the once the analogue-digital c/o starts in a big way they are going to 'double' the output power from the tx masts.
Re: wireless from coaxial?
depends on where u live also, we have abismal freeview reception where I live, and its a major town, u can get certain channel groups but other like the C4 bundle are a no go :( Good luck, hope u get it sorted

True - but if they are Belling Lee coax connectors on the amplifier/splitter, they aren't much use - check the connectors on the device you buy and buy the same!
The Power output of the digital transmitters is increasing when the co-located analogue transmission ceases
