Ram Problems

So I've been using 4GB of ram and it seems that my games are crashing for no reason and sometimes I got a BSOD when playing Stalker and Two Worlds Edit: Also when I was playing CoH the screen had became small and took up the top right hand corner while the rest was just black. I have got some of the codes noted down but one is incomplete.

Memory Management

Stop: 0x0000001A(0x0000000000041284,0x0000000011025001,0x00000000000001e9,0xFFFF70000081000)

Other one was Stop: 0x0000000A(0x00000000000000280200 and the last one was 0xFFFFF8000248E3B0)

It is annoying with all those zeros, really screws my eyes up :O_o1: Would pictures of the BSOD be better?

When the second BSOD occurred I took out two sticks of RAM and they were incredibly hot. I'm now in the process of doing a memtest with memtest86+ V1.7, but I was wondering if I just do the normal test or do I change some of the settings when I attempt a memtest?

Should I attempt a BIOS update for my motherboard? I'm using the 2020 BIOS and the 602 one lists improved memory compatibility but I would update to version 702 I think.

Final note is I have had problems before and when I sent back the faulty memory, I was told it was fine, so for some reason I was getting a false error or could there be something wrong with my motherboard?

Firstly, see if memtest turns up anything - let it do a full few runs - just default settings to begin with :)

see if any errors occur... if they do, but are sporatic - ie random different parts of the memory - then try the bios update, or turning the ram voltage up 1 notch (unless you've already done this).

are there any events in the Event Viewer (see Control Panel->Administrative Tools-> Event Viewer) (critical/warning ones - red/yellow) that may shed some more light on the errors -

maybe have a trawl through results and see if there is anything useful there - i didnt spot much but i only had a breif glance...

What RAM, what voltage is it at?

Ran the test on the firs two sticks and they are all fine, will test the other two soon. I can not find where to turn the memory voltage up in my BIOS.

There seems to be alot of warnings and errors in my even viewer.

Corsair CM2X1024-6400C4 I beleve right now it is at 1.8v

Another BSOD occured when I Alt-F4 out of Two worlds, saying that my video memoery manager had a fatal error.

It's almost certainly undervolted. Try it at 2.1v. See this:

and running at 2.1v it's going to get even hotter. I wouldn't worry about them getting hot too much, but if you think it's getting silly, point some kind of fan at your modules.

I upped the voltage to 2.1 and ran a memtest on the two sticks that cause me a problem(not sure which one yet, will find out when i got more time) and I got pictures of the test on my phone and did only one pass tho but I only got 25 errors. So do I have to return the sticks or could the result be ignored?

"Only 25" errors is still 25 too many.

If you're getting ANY errors, and the RAM is running at the correct voltage, you've got a problem. Find the faulty stick and send it back.

i hate that when it happens.

first check temps, most crashes are from high temps. some games cause a lot of heat from cpu and gpu.

i dont know if you've been to the motherboard website to check compatibility with your ram.

they might also have a forum where other people are experiencing simlar problems.

Well I don't have anything to check my temperatures with. But it doesn't crash so far from when I play with 3GB of my ram nor 2GB.

I have the list of what is compatible with my motherboard and I do see my RAM on there. But it has 3 DIMM support and only A and B which means it does not support 4 sticks of RAM as two pairs of Dual Channel memory configuration from the manual.

I only found one stick with a problem. The other 3 are fine from the memtest.

Still wondering if a BIOS update might help.

Also should I get 2gb*2 instead?
