    Nova T 500

Bought one of these from scan last month and installed it on my computer. When i connect the ariel and scan for channels, i get 0 services are found. This happens in both media centre and the wintv software. Anyone know if this could be because its faulty or if theres something i can do to fix it?

To echo directhex (it's karma from the other thread) - have you tried a freeview box to establish that the aerial is freeview compatible and you can actually get channels with it?

    Re: Nova T 500

I have tried a freeview box to insure it can pick up freeview signals which it can...but i just realised that this is a digital dvb-t tuner and is the signal for this different from your standard freeview signal

    Re: Nova T 500

Freeview is the branding for the free-to-air portion of the UK terrestrial DTV (Digital TV) system. This system uses DVB-T as it's broadcast standard.

    Just to clarify...

    Re: Nova T 500

Theres a command line utility scanchannelsbda which will write out a detailed log of what channels the card can find on different frequencies, google it and you'll also get results to threads in the Hauppauge forum which may be of help.

    Re: Nova T 500

I bought a nova t-500 from scan & RMA'd it. (no complaints about Scan) - I actually got 4 channels (no C5 & no new channels)

My aerial connection works well with a Hauppuage card & a standalone freeview box.

    I wonder if it's a poor design?

partly. the design of the card means it doesn't have remotely enough signal to actually show anything, as standard. there's meant to be ain integrated amplifier, which your driver will enable for you, to make the card actually functional. on linux, you need to give the "force_lna_activation=1" parameter to the dvb-usb-dib0700 driver used by the card, behavior on windows you're really at hauppauge's mercy

    Re: Nova T 500

speardane when you rma'd it what was the reason because doesn't it have to be faulty to rma it. I also bought mine from scan and if i can rma i will because i only get a few channels and no sound. But i dont think the card is faulty its just a poor card and if they tested it, it would probably work fine.

    Re: Nova T 500

It'll depend on how long you've had it as to whether you can return it under DSR. If its not faulty and you send it back Scan will test it, find it not faulty and then charge you for the testing.

If you've had it over 14 days then I would stick it on eBay (they usually go for good prices) and look at the Pinnacle Dual DVB-T Pro - thats what I use in my HTPC and its great.

I also tried it and the follow-up Hauppuage device under both Windows & linux.
the DVB-T worked under neither. The Hauppuage worked under both, but used much less cpu under linux and therefore felt more responsive.

I just explained that as I had a decent signal on other devices, that the claim this could work straight into a laptop wasn't realistic. No issues or arguments - but I've always found a decent response from scan - who seem to have normal, technically competent people in the returns & testing depts.
