    7Zip - BackDoor.Hupigon3.AMVL false positive?

I recently installed 7zip compression utility which I downloaded from filehippo.com

    AVG free has found BackDoor.Hupigon3.AMVL c:\program files\7-zip\7z.sfx

Nothing else seems to be picking this up as an infected file so I assume it's a false positive.

    Anything to be worried about?

False positive. Upload it to the Kaspersky Virus File Scanner if it's below 1MB. But it'll be fine.

I've also noticed this. I'm using the 64-bit version on 64-bit Vista. Seeing as the only two hits in google are this thread and another thread to do with Nvidia graphics - I'd say we're okay.

Although saying that, the problem has only presented itself today, and my daily scan runs AFTER being updated.

Perhaps it's just a problem on Grisofts end. Hopefully it ISN'T a trojan.

    Why the download from filehippo?
Why not go to the authors site directly to download it, you might have saved yourself the trouble. However, having said that it might just be a false positive.

    Yes. That's what I meant by 'I'm using the 64-bit version on 64-bit Vista.' - I'm running the 64-bit version of 7zip

    avg is a pos

basically, that file can be used in bad ways, but alone it's harmless (harmless the way 7zip uses it anyway)

Kaspersky Anti-Virus has not detected any viruses at this time in the file you submitted.
    You're clean!

Total virus result 2/32 ie No problem with 93% of the anti-malware software.

    Thanks for the replies.

    Re: 7Zip - BackDoor.Hupigon3.AMVL false positive?

Well one of my systems just got the AVG update and it started reporting the 7z.sfx file as Hupigon3.AMVL as well.

I hope it is a fals positive, however I have 7z installed on my other system and that one does not trigger AVG as a virus.

I looked at the two files and noticed that the one that does not trigger AVG is a much older install (5/14/2006) the one that triggers AVG is (12/6/2007) and the size difference between them is 1k. So they either changed the sfx file between 7z versions and the new one is tripping up AVG, or somone snuck something into the later releases of 7z.

I am going to keep an eye out for this....

[EDIT] After looking a bit more online it seems AVG is detecting the same trojan in many different executables, I use the FREE version of AVG, so I guess you get what you pay for. I will have to live with false positives I guess [/EDIT]

[EDIT2] Here is a quick update. I manually did an update of AVG and it found a "Priority Update" after doing it it no longer detects the Hupigon3.AMVL trojan in the 7z.sfx [/EDIT2]
