Abit IP 35 and XFX Alpha dog 256 card
Hiya Everyone
First of all you will have to excuse my technical knowledge, but the problem I have is with the graphics on gameplay. This is a new build and I am not sure, but I think I have to set the bios up for my IP35 mobo to identify and utilise all the power or lack of it on my graphics card (gifted to me).
Can you guys help me out here please.
Abit IP-35 (not E or Pro)
XFX Alpha dog 256 DDR3 graphics card.

What is the actual problem you're having with the graphics?
Re: Abit IP 35 and XFX Alpha dog 256 card
Hiya
Thanks for swift response. I play an online game called Asheron's call and although I've tried all available graphic options within the game, When moving a character with the keyboard directional keys, let's say I turn the character to the left, the top RH quarter of screen streaks and flashes. This is vice versa when turning to the right with the top left quarter of screen streaking and flashing. I you need any more info, let me know.
Thx again

It sounds like you should try enabling V Sync in either the game or the drivers, screen "tearing" like that is a common problem with v sync disabled, though do note that v sync will limit your games frame rate to your monitors refresh rate, which will be at least 60fps\hz on allmost all monitors.

Tearing
It is an unfortunate fact of computer graphics that if you disable VSync, your graphics card and monitor will go out of synch. Whenever your FPS exceeds the refresh rate (e.g. 120 FPS on a 60Hz screen), or in general at any point during which your graphics card is working faster than your monitor, the graphics card produces more frames in the frame buffer than the monitor can actually display at any one time, so the end result is that when the monitor goes to get a new frame from the primary buffer of the graphics card during VBI, the frame may be made up of two or more different frames overlapping each other. This results in the onscreen image appearing to be slightly out of alignment or 'torn' in parts whenever there is any movement - and thus it is referred to as Tearing.

Re: Abit IP 35 and XFX Alpha dog 256 card
Hey am not sure what the problem is but ill try and list some of what i think could be the possibilites.
Could it be a driver issue? Try downloading the latest drivers, go to NVIDIA Home then drivers then select the series of card you have to search for drivers.
Could this be an issue with refresh rates? Is the refresh rate of the monitor higher then what the game is or otherway round?
Maybe the card is using a feature that the game doesnt support?
Or the game doesnt support the graphics card?
Sorry that I havent been much help, ive never experience the problem so for me its hard to diagnose. Have you tried a google search for your problem? Or contacted the Asheron's Call support and service?

Hiya all
Thx for the replies, gonna look into your ideas, will post if I do or don't get anywhere. Never seen V sync anywhere. Wish me luck hehe.
Just gotta find my hammer, I know its here somewhere!

Hi everyone
Ok I have checked for the following:
The ingame option allows you to "sync with refresh rate". That was enabled but sadly very little difference.
Been to XFXforce website for latest graphics driver, but I already have that. I think I d/l that when rig first built.
Game is set to 1024 x 768 (as recommended). My monitor is set at 60Hz.
I have read your link at tweakguides, so I now know about "tearing", hehe, tearing my hair out, tearing up the marriage license etc.
There are a few named games mentioned in the nvidia control panel on my desktop, reckon I should try them even though they aren't the game I play?

Out of interest did you try turning the sync off?
Re: Abit IP 35 and XFX Alpha dog 256 card
Hi Disturbedguy
Yes i did, as a matter of fact I tried everything in the graphics options pane of the game, but to no avail. It's still "tearing". Going off at a tangent, can any of you guys recommend a good PSU for my rig?

Re: Abit IP 35 and XFX Alpha dog 256 card
Id say a corsair 520 watt PSU would be fine for your rig and there good PSU's anyway.
Im not sure of what else it could be, do you have tech help forums for the game? maybe the creators of the game could give you a better idea.

Hiya
I'm beginning to wonder whether or not it's something to do with my Vista 64 bit OS? I have another computer running Vista 32 bit and Asheron's call runs fine on that. I will keep thread open for a while just in case anyone else has had this prob.
Thank you all very much for your ideas and help.

Re: Abit IP 35 and XFX Alpha dog 256 card
Hiya
I'm just about giving up attempting to get rid of this "tearing". I have tried every combination within the game graphics option panel. I have talked to guys within the game who are running Vista 64bit OS and have compared my graphic options with theirs. Still no joy. Looks like it might be "Hammer time" for this XFX 256 Alpha Dog DDR3 graphics card. I suppose it could be me being old and grey hehe.
If you Guys and Gals can think of a good make of hammer to buy, please post reply.
Thanks

Yes they are solid PSU's. I have one running on my rig (E4600, HD3870, 2GBRAM). My brother also has one running on his Q6600 rig with an 8800GT.
I know people who've also had 2 X 8800GT running from them. :)
Wish I could be of more help... Hope you fix your problem.

Hiya
I folowed your lead and bought a Corsair 520 watt PSU. Nice piece of kit. Still looking for a good hammer though! lol.
Realistically, I probably can't point my finger at the graphics card, it's probably something really simple that I'm missing.
