Q6600 + PC6400 Overclock?

I am new to overclocking and would like to clock my q6600 to 3ghz. I have read loads of guides etc... and get what i need to do in terms of the processor but everything i have read has said overclocking the processor effectively overclocks the whole system:S
So what i need to know is if i overclock the q6600 to 3ghz with a 9x multiplyer and 333mhz fsb, do i need to touch my ram which is PC6400 800mhz OCZ. Also can anyone explain what a 1:1 is in terms of this?

1:1 refers to the FSB : RAM ratio.

So at 1:1, a 333FSB would mean you memory's running at 333MHz = DDR667 = PC5400.

As your memory is rated at 400MHz (DDR800 = PC6400) you wouldn't have to worry about it at all.

In fact you could take your Q6600 up to 3.6GHz (400FSB x 9) without having to touch it.

/\ what he said, but if you have the ram and fsb both at 333, which is 1:1 then you're already at 3gig (333x9=2997)
