Re: To RAID or not to RAID

It's ages since I did a reinstall - I developed a baseline image a long time ago for each of my machines I I just dump that on if I break anything horribly (again) (which happens more often than I like to admit), but nLite is definitely the way forward in this situation.

Re: To RAID or not to RAID

NLite is a great product and really useful. If your aim is to retain your existing installation I don't think it's your answer. You need to integrate the raid drivers into the installation you have now so that it'll boot off the RAID array. There are products that will do that.
Personally, I boot off a single disk (raptor) then install anything that will transfer large amounts of data (games mostly) to a RAID0 D:
I've raided in hardware adn software and can't tell the difference, so I use software to make moving systems easier. Just hibernate your OS disk, it'll boot up in 5 seconds or so and barely be used again after that
If you are going to stick with the same system for a while raiding your OS disk and just using that might be a good solution for you. I like the flexibility mine offers though. I'm still to be convinced that RAID makes a major difference, you're talking barely perceptible speed increases for loading files etc.. In a few VERY select instances there are large benefits to be had, mostly in the server field though.

Having said that, it's fun to mess with
