    Question CoreTemp 0.96 Problems?

    Hello all
I have just installed Core Temp 0.96 and quite frankly don't believe what it is saying or could I be wrong?
    I am currently running Vista 32bit with a Q6600 B3 @ 3.0Ghz on a Asus P5W DH Deluxe with water cooling.
CT is showing temperatures of 98 97 91 90 degrees whilst the temperature probe I have in the water is only showing 28 degrees and there have been NO system crashes.

Is Core Temp wrong or should I be worried?

    TIA
    Cosworth

    What does Asus Probe says?

Low water temp doesn't mean that actual water block is sitting properly on the cpu. You migh check that as well. Though values are really quite high and cpu should throttle or pc freeze/reboot.

    I'd be worried.

Measure with something else to check.

No pc freeze/reboot what so ever hence my questioning the readings.
The block is sitting correctly, though it does have the manufacturers paste on it. I have a spare CPU block of a different design, perhaps it may be worth trying this?

As for Probe, not even the latest version of Asus Probe wants to work under correctly under Vista.

    Re: CoreTemp 0.96 Problems?

    Thanks GoNz0
Have installed Everest and here are results:

    Temperatures
    Motherboard 36 °C (97 °F)
    CPU 75 °C (167 °F)
    CPU #1 / Core #1 98 °C (208 °F)
    CPU #1 / Core #2 97 °C (207 °F)
    CPU #1 / Core #3 91 °C (196 °F)
    CPU #1 / Core #4 90 °C (194 °F)
    GPU1: GPU 33 °C (91 °F)
    GPU1: GPU Ambient 35 °C (95 °F)
    GPU2: GPU 33 °C (91 °F)
    GPU2: GPU Ambient 33 °C (91 °F)

Basically the same as CoreTemp so it looks like I may have a problem and yet all runs fine. Will obviously have to re-evaluate my system cooling. Shame as I'm getting a new MOBO soon and will have to strip down then as well.

    Re: CoreTemp 0.96 Problems?

if thats correct your right on the limits, may be worth checking for a bios update as that may sort the temps, if not you need to have a look under the heatsink to make sue it has made full contact.

you read so many posts like this and it nearly always turns out to be bad mounting or an incompatable heatsink.

    Re: CoreTemp 0.96 Problems?

Try fully loading the CPU and check if it throttles with Right Mark CPU utility.
If the CPU does not throttle then there is no overheating and readings are just off.

I'd say CPU temp (not cores) in Everest is just about right

My Q6600 @ 3.0 with default voltage runs at 74/74/72/70 according to CoreTemp 0.96.1 fully loaded with folding application. And it's cooled with Akasa Evo120 on low rpms. Though the board is Abit IP35-E

    Re: CoreTemp 0.96 Problems?

Will try! But which do I install : CPU Rightmark

But surely 75°C is still high on water cooling and not under load?

    Re: CoreTemp 0.96 Problems?

Well I've tried it and well nothing, it does recognise the Q6600 and won't update the database so it's a no go there

Instead ran HL2 Lost Coast three times and then Everest stability tester for 10 mins.

    Temperatures:
    Motherboard 37 °C
    CPU 76 °C

    Under Lost Coast
    GPU1: GPU 39 °C

Temperatures stayed stable and there was no freezing etc. So I think the info must be wrong it's getting from the MOBO. As I will be changing the MOBO in the few weeks I think I will leave it alone until then.

    Thanks again
    Cosworth
