    New System working but not?

    Hi Guys

I have just put together a new rig based on suggestions from you guys.
    I have a
Intel Quad Core Q6600 with a Scythe Ninja Plus Rev B
    ABIT/IP-35 S775 MOBO
    Enermax 650w infinti PSU
    4GB (2x2GB) Corsair TwinX XMS2
    XFX Geforce 8800 Ultra

After a few hiccups (i thought the CPU was dead!) i finally have it working with one small problem the siren wont stop. Abit says that when the two tone siren is ringing there is usually a voltage problem. I read in another thread to up the DDR2 volt to 1.9-2 but that didnt help. I have also flashed the bios with the latest upgrade from Abit. I guess its another setting but im not really sure what i should change it to.

Does anyone have a similar system that you can tell me your Bios settings?

The funny thing is the system works fine, Im just afraid to use it for a prolonged amount of time in case something frys. (that and the siren is freaking annoying!)

    Thanks guys

What are temperatures showing as in the BIOS? They might be too high and the siren is warning you.

Also, do you have the fan on your cooler plugged into the CPU fan header on the mobo? Double check as it will warn you that no fan has been detected.

Re: New System working but not?

Ill have to check the temps when i get home tonight.

Im confident the fan is plugged into the CPU fan header.

I suppose i can use the software that came with the motherboard to check the temps?
    Or is there something better.

uGuru is a good app & handy too (as is the uGuru clock if you have one), but you need to check them in the BIOS at this stage. Sometimes the upper limit can be set stupidly low, thus giving you a false alarm.

Re: New System working but not?

With that cooler you're using I would guess roughly 40+c idle, 50+c load at stock. Depends on your case cooling and ambient temps though.

If its above 70c then you're gonna have issues.

Re: New System working but not?

Indeed, i'd set the upper limit to abt 65C as that's the max recomended working temp for a Q6600.

Only time I've had a constant, two tone "siren" with my motherboard was when the CPU fan wasn't spinning. Either because a) I'd unplugged it to quickly sort out a cabling issue and one other time when it didn't spin up for some reason

Re: New System working but not?

Basic Beep Codes for ABIT AWARD BIOS Motherboards

1.) No beep at all - this means your motherboard is dead, either due to a defective or underpowered power supply, poorly seated CPU or RAM, or a dead-on-arrival board

2.) One beep - board is working fine

3.) One long beep then machine shuts down - faulty, improperly installed or missing CPU

    4.) 1 short(Beep) System booting is normally

    5.) 2 short(Beep) CMOS setting error

    6.) 1 long - 1 short(Beep) DRAM ERROR

    7.) 1 long - 2 short(Beep) Display card or monitor connected error

    8.) 1 long - 3 short(Beep) Keyboard Error

    9.) 1 long - 9 short(Beep) ROM Error

    10.) Long(Beep) continuous DRAM isn't inserted correctly

11.) Short(Beep) continuous POWER supply has a problem

12.) A two-tone siren, generally caused by overheating or out of specification voltages

13.) Four beeps then machine shuts down. This is because this version of the BIOS will shut down your machine if no fan tachometer signal is detected on the fan header. Make sure you attach a fan to the FAN1 or FAN4 header or clear CMOS to reset to default (no checking).

    Hi Guys
You were right about the fan alarm. I disabled it in the bios and now the alarm has stopped. But the fan is definately plugged in, so now im a bit unsure what to do. I guess ill monitor the temps and make sure everything stays low.

Re: New System working but not?

    Hi Everyone

So ive opened the computer up to see if i can discover the problem. The scythe ninja fan is definately spinning and blowing air into the heat sink. So im not sure why the alarm is going.
The Abit EQ program i have installed also thinks the fan is not operating.
Ive disabled the alarm and run a few games and monitored the temps and everything seems fine.
Does anything think its just a faulty part of the board? Im not going to bother replacing it if it is though, way too much trouble.

    Cheers.

Re: New System working but not?

Personally I'd not worry about it as everything works fine. IMO not worth the effort as it may well be the fan at fault. But the choice is yours

You can get a uGuru clock, quite cheap & then you can keep a constant eye on your temps along with a lot of other things.

Re: New System working but not?

Funkydim: The alarm is probably sounding because the fan is running at a very low rpm. Most boards have this safety feature, if the rpm is around 1000 or below then it'll sound an alarm.

Provided temps are fine then just ignore it. Ive had the same problem before when using silent, low rpm fans

Re: New System working but not?

Cool, Its the fan that came with the Scythe Ninja Heat sink. I guess later on if things get hot i can buy another fan (although i have one extra fan in the case already). But for the moment ill sitck with what I have.

    Thanks for the advice.

Re: New System working but not?

No need to worry about it. The scythe fans run at a low rpm to keep them nice and quiet. The fact that the heatsink itself is massive makes up for the low rpm fan. You shouldnt have any need to change it
