KVM Switch related problem
Hi
can anyone out there throw some light on this. ive a kvm switch to operate both a vista and xp machine. the vistas happy with it, but the mouse and keyboard will not work on the xp side. The connectors on the xp are the old ps2 etc.
the kvm instructions say set bios to halt on eorr to all but keyboard and get the usb irq to enabled. well surprisingly my bios doesnt say anything like that, it has the various hard drives listed but nothing else.
going into the advanced still nothing about this. however in the pnp/pci section there is a few slots with auto on it.
now is there something obvious im missing, is there say a driver need to operate a usb keyboard and mouse?
although the kvm switch is new there is no product support anywhere on the manufacturers site. which is ominous. i look forward to any replies. Anna

Yep, make & model would be good and any other info on the setup of the troublesome PC, ie motherboard etc. XP should have all the relevant drives installed, not that you'd usually need them with a KVM.
Re: KVM Switch related problem
hi
the system, self built by me some years ago probably 2002/3. xp motherboard msi ultra 745 (probably ancient by todays standards!) other than that nothing too forward inside, the kvm switch is a aten cs102u, ironically nothing in their support area for it, and im still waiting on a reply from them.
ive taken screen shots of the bios etc as your supposed to change one setting as in cmos, set halt on error to all but keyboard, sadly that doesnt appear on the bios settings.

The OP says an aten cs 102 u
Re: KVM Switch related problem
My bad, I missed that :S
Ok, manual suggests (as does the u at the end of the model) that this is a USB KVM. How exactly are you connecting it to the PS/2 ports on your machine? If you're using usb>PS/2 adapters it's highly unlikely that it won't work.
Beyond that... have you tried contacting iogear support (iogear seems to be a trade name of Aten)? info@iogear.com seems like a good start.
Re: KVM Switch related problem
I had a look at the website and it only shows information for the CS104u - which is the 4 porrt version. How are you connecting it to the machine with the ps2 connectors - as the KVM only has USB outputs?
If you are using adaptors - do the keyboard and mouse operate the machine without the KVM swich?
Re: KVM Switch related problem
hi
The swith on the back has three parts for connecting the screen, cant recall what the screen connectors are called off hand. however, these are all ok and up and working, with each screen connector there is a usb, this gets connected to each machine via a usb port.
So i have vista connected up and the xp is connected but then when you fire it up, it will not accept the mouse and keyboard attached to the front of the kvm switch, basically you cant do anything with it unless you connect the ps2 keyboard and mouse and then suddenly were up and running.
just thought ive connected the usb to one of the original ports i put a pci card in to give me 2.0 instead of 1.1 perhaps i will try that as in the 2.0 usb when i get back later.
all asistance appreciate. by the way what is folding and why is it used. (sorry gone off on a tangent.)

Our goal: to understand protein folding, misfolding, and related diseases
What is protein folding and how is folding linked to disease?
Proteins are biology's workhorses -- its "nanomachines." Before proteins can carry out these important functions, they assemble themselves, or "fold." The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, in many ways remains a mystery.
Moreover, when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold"), there can be serious consequences, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes.

Re: KVM Switch related problem
HI interesting, not quite what i expected it to be!
very intriguing.
going back to the switch, Aten finally spent 1/2 hour on the phone and wouldnt admit it but they dont know the answer either. in the end they went to that trusted statement "return it as its obviously faulty" that was 5 minutes after saying it wont work with a usb keyboard!
At present the new machine remains out of action until one of these switches become vista compatible. in the interim im thinking of a usb pad and pencil to get round having two sets of keyboard and mices on the desk, and some sort of switch for the screen that will be that until technolocy progresses further.
also i have an old tablet im going to try using its screen feed alone to see what happens.
