    Lightbulb Quake 4 on notebook

Hi, I am playing quake 4 (pre updates) on my notebook. The game is fast, however it frequently pauses. Is this a weakness in the hard drive which is toshiba brand 5400 rpm, or is it my proc, (2 ghz core 2 duo)? Could it be a problem with running Q4 under Vista? I am already upgrading my HD to a WD scorpio fyi.

looking at your spec you shouldnt have issues with quake 4.

obv do the usual get latest gfx driver, game patch then see how you get on from there.

    Re: Quake 4 on notebook

I have ansitropic 8x filtering on, though the gfx card is 512 meg. My recourse is to get rid of the toshiba brand hdd, update Q4 to the latest version and if I still get those loading pauses then i'm screwed. I am running on mains power too. To my mind, providing a gfx card is sufficient and compentant, loading pauses come from a slow hdd with limited cache memory.

    Re: Quake 4 on notebook

One thing I found with my new dell under vista is the power management.

On my old sony running on power meant everything got full power regardless of the power setting but on my new dell it doesn't. Power saver is power saver even if it's plugged in so gaming performance is rubbish. High performance power management and it flies

Not sure that will be the case but worth a try.

Doesn't sound like a HDD problem but it might be I guess.
