    WMP and FFDShow... help please

    hey guys,
i have had issues with since for some time with dvds looking grainy, pixelated and artifacting... however i am now trying to use ffdshow as the decoder and to process the video. In WMP 11 i can go to dvd options and under advanced all of the ffdshow options are there but when i actually play a dvd its seems as though wmp isn't using ffdshow as the only icon appearing in the taskbar is the ffdshow audio icon. Is there anyway to enable wmp to use this as the dvd decoder. I have also enabled the onscreendisplay feature for the decoder to see if it was using it but it doesn't appear so i'm assuming it isn't. any help please...

Download the klite mega codec pack, and media player classic, all your problems will be solved...

Re: WMP and FFDShow... help please

Well I'm not entirely sure, but try just the klite mega codec pack, that should work.
I wouldn't recommend WMP for movies though...

Re: WMP and FFDShow... help please

reinstall ffdshow. you should get tickboxes during install where you can say which apps and which codecs to use (you want mpeg2 for dvd)

Re: WMP and FFDShow... help please

i suspect your melange of codec packs and so on has really broken things for you. codecs on windows are an INCREDIBLY fragile topic, so you need to keep it simple.

You don't play the bup files, they are part of the DVD's structure. You play the VIDEO_TS.ifo file.

Re: WMP and FFDShow... help please

ok i have fixed that issue but i still can't get wmp to use ffdshow... it must be using it because i have no dvd codecs except the ones that came with the cccp codec pack which is what i am using... in media player classic i know it uses ffdshow because i have osd enabled which shows up and the icon appears in the taskbar, in wmp neither happens...anyone know how to enable it for wmp

Is MPEG2 actually enabled in ffdshow? It isn't by default, in the settings go to codecs, scroll down to MPEG2 and change disaled to libavcodec.

Not at all, you can install any codecs you pelase and if you have trouble it's just a matter of unregistering unwanted ones or changing the priorities.
