Unhappy Memory problems after bios update ....

Updated my P5KC Bios to the latest Version 1001 2008/02/15 update today ready for a CPU change.

    I dont overclock my system.

After the update I loaded default settings and changed the bios settings back to what they used to be but the system wont boot into VISTA and keeps rebooting.

The only settings I changed were for the memory timings and voltage. These setiings worked fine before. If I leave the memory timings on AUTO the system boots int VISTA but the memory is not running at the correct timings.

Anyone had these problems with the new bios?

If it runs when set to auto - leave it set to auto. Why make life difficult? It could be that the bios is reporting the timings incorrectly.

I presume you mean that you have something like 4-4-4-12 RAM but if you leave it on auto you get 5-5-5-18??

If so it's possible that the new BIOS introduced a bug into the voltage settings. Your best bet is to search around and see if anyone is reporting similar issues, or be prepared to do a little fiddling (which can destroy your memory!) with the voltage settings.

Yes the Crucial Ballistix should run at 4-4-4-12 but CPU-Z says it is running at 5-5-5-18.

I checked the Asus forums and it seems others have had issues with the latest BIOS. However for some unknown reason Asus have made it is impossible to downgrade the BIOS without using an old version of Asus update which only works on XP!

Best bet is not to worry atm. The timing difference isn't a massive change and the chances are any "fix" will introduce any stability problems.

This is why I've left my BIOS at the one the board came with it, I have no problems that need fixing and don't want to introduce any more.
