    Program Files with Dual HDs

    Hello!

Just a quick question, is there any way of changing the default place to install programs without having to change the directory every time? I ask this because I'm building a computer for a friend and I was considering adding a SS hard drive for the OS but it wont have space for programs and he will forget to change it. I already know how to move My Documents etc.

Re: Program Files with Dual HDs

There is a registry key that defines the default place. As I recall it is something like "Program Files Dir", but it should be easy enough to find by searching the registry for keys that currently have the value "C:\Program Files". I would look it up for you, but I am typing on my Linux box at the moment.

One problem is that a lot of programs don't honour it, so you will end up with some programs installed in the new location, and others in the old. Last time I set-up a PC using that setting, (about 4 years ago), I found that Microsoft programs where the worst for that.

Re: Program Files with Dual HDs

Thanks a lot for the help :S. I'm not going to use a solid state drive anymore, I'm goind to use two 80gb drives in raid so it wont matter too much as long as the majority end up in the second drive
    With love and many thanks,
