PCI issues and audio card issues

I have a strange problem with my XP.

When i load up i get a "found new hardware" relating to a PCI. Then i get one related to my audio card. Now with my audio card i can go to device setup and install the drivers and searches and finds it when i press re-install drivers.. then i restarted and suddenly its like it never happened and i have to re-search for the drivers for the card again..

With the PCI slot i get the issue every time also and when i search like i do with my audio card it finds nothing... so my main 2 problems are:

    1) The PCI slot is generally a pain and not working ( i have downloaded a chipset update which i think was for my pc but there was no other way of knowing as my mother board doesn't say any thing to help me.
    2) My audio card will work but i always have to go to devices and properties then click re-install driver ! Every time!!!!

Some other information to find the problem... I have vista partitioned on a completely separate hard drive, and the I do not get a PCI issue on that and my vista drivers for my audio card work on vista also.
So its related to my XP.
My card is "M-Audio Delta 1010lt" if that helps.. and my motherboard... well i was told to look at it to find the chipset for drivers and all it says was :

    ASUS P5N-E SLI
i searched and downloaded the driver for that caption and nothing changed.

So yeah thats where I am at so far...and so i need help as as quick as possible as I need the card to work so i can record and get back to work for my university course which is music.

At the moment in my system devices i have:
    Multimedia Audio Controller (!)
    PCI Device (!)

With the orange (!) next to it .

Hope you can help me out!

well then i have an equally strange answer.

with my audigy2 ZS, (i know its different than your sound card but bear with me) i was having similar problems. after googling around the internet i found out it was something to do with putting the card in a certain pci slot that caused irq conflicts and the soundcard to stop working and randomly uninstall itself.

the solution was basically to uninstall those control panel devices with the (!) mark next to them and all soundcard drivers. turn off the computer, swap the card to a different pci slot and then reboot, reinstall drivers and away you go..

please note this may not work with your pc, but it might be worth a try if you can't think of anything else

before you try the above, if you remove the harddrive with vista on it do you still get the error after installing the soundcard and then rebooting? (might be something to do with dual boot)

Well my vista is doing similar at the moment because i took it out of the slot and swapped them over so it suddenly went all weird.

But what i did not do was uninstall the devices that you mentioned.
I would have assumed the slots were similar to ram slots where by you just plug it in and away it goes. But ill uninstall those devices like you suggested and see what happens.

Re: PCI issues and audio card issues

your second post doesn't mention whether you got it working in xp or not. if you did then just reinstall vista drivers

if not then you need to start again with soundcard -

remove card from computer, leave it to one side.
boot into xp, remove sound drivers, and those devices with (!)
boot into vista, remove sound drivers, and any (!) devices
    turn off pc.

place soundcard into different slot than it was in originally,

boot into xp, install drivers, reboot a few times to make sure its worked,
boot into vista, install drivers, reboot see if worked.

this should fix it, and as i said in my first post, it may not work on your computer.
